[00:00:01] Speaker A: We are the super nerdy Sailor Guardians who fight for love and justice. And this is across the Mooniverse.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: Foreign.
[00:00:32] Speaker A: Welcome to across the Mooniverse. My name is Maddie.
[00:00:36] Speaker B: And I'm Mike.
[00:00:37] Speaker A: Hey. Hey, Mike.
[00:00:40] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:00:40] Speaker A: Happy Moon Day.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: Happy Moon Day. I was. I was doing the head bob, like, night at the Roxbury during the opening music.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: I. It feels every time that. That intro, it's just great.
[00:00:52] Speaker B: It's kind of like the intro to Sailor Moon a little bit.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: When we did the first probably. I don't know, what did we do 15 episodes before we had the long break? Something like that. We only published like 12 of them or something. Anyway, I always used to. Driving over to your home studio, as we did back then, I always used to just play the theme song over and over again to get pumped up to record the episode. I don't do that anymore, unfortunately.
[00:01:20] Speaker A: We should plan a thing. Like, we know when we're gonna. So we might as well just like, 10 minutes before.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: I mean, if I was smart enough to know how to, like, have recorded music on my phone, I would have, you know. You know what I mean? But it's too complicated for me.
Anyway, I am pumped for this episode. So today we're Talking about season one, episode 25, Jupiter, the powerful girl in love. So the first thing I. Yeah, I know we're getting a new Guardian. And so the first thing I looked for was to see if there was a change in the title sequence. Because as you recall, in the title sequence originally, we just saw Sailor Moon and there were two. There were two girls in silhouette until they were revealed to be Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars. And so I was wondering if perhaps the title sequence would have a silhouetted girl or a new, you know, fourth Sailor Guardian in that little part of the title sequence. And there was no change to the title sequence yet.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: It's expensive. It's expensive to change the title sequence when you're drawing everything by hand.
[00:02:26] Speaker B: The Simpsons do it every single.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Oh, well, you know what? They also make a whole heck of a lot of money.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: But I mean, to be fair, it's at the very end of the sequence. It's when they jump on the couch. It's always different.
You know that.
[00:02:41] Speaker A: Yes, I did.
[00:02:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Actually, can you imagine how out of ideas they are for that at this point? It's been happening, like, 28 years.
[00:02:49] Speaker A: They're probably just like, I don't know, how about we just make them just regular sit there this time?
[00:02:56] Speaker B: I don't know. I love the Simpsons, but I Quit watching a long time ago. I mean, I kind of feel like I know what the Simpsons have to say about everything, you know?
[00:03:02] Speaker A: Yeah, pretty much.
[00:03:03] Speaker B: And they need for them to chime in anymore. I know their take on stuff.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: True.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: But you know, I mean, God, love Matt Groening. I mean, what an amazing thing. That show is the longest running primetime show in television history.
[00:03:18] Speaker A: It's amazing.
[00:03:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:19] Speaker A: Oh, gosh. We're not talking. This isn't a podcast about that show though.
This is a podcast about Sailor Moon.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: It's about Sailor fucking Moon.
[00:03:26] Speaker A: And I will say one more thing before we go into the episode proper is our intro bed.
The music is very, very similar. Well, not very, very similar, but similar enough to one of my favorite ending songs later in the in the series. Wow.
That might have been my subconscious motivation for choosing it, but I went through a lot, a lot of royalty free music.
[00:03:54] Speaker B: You found some good ones. You found some good ones. Yeah.
All right, so the episode opens with a teaser. And the teaser is sailor. It's a Sailor Moon voiceover. And she says, what in the world? A human got turned into a monster. Now I can't punish him. I've never encountered anything like this in my entire career at Sailor Moon. But this is no time to worry about that.
What the heck? I'm just gonna do it in the name of the moon. I'll punish you.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: But she can't punish. She just said that.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Exactly.
You can punish without killing. You know what I mean?
[00:04:25] Speaker A: I mean, I guess.
Also, who's that girl that's beating up those dudes? I know that seems weird.
[00:04:31] Speaker B: I'm guessing that's Jupiter, the powerful girl in love.
[00:04:35] Speaker A: No, I mean, Jupiter has a very specific look. I'm sure that's just a mysterious girl in a brown skirt with rose earrings.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: So what I liked about this episode is we're back to form. It opens in the Dark Kingdom, which is how they used to open.
[00:04:49] Speaker A: Yeah, well, no, it used to open with juice and toast.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: That's right. Juice and toast is in the Dark.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: Kingdom of the day.
[00:04:54] Speaker B: But I mean, but Nephrite was spending so much time avoiding.
[00:04:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:59] Speaker B: Queen Beryl that we barely saw the Dark Kingdom with Nep. Right?
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: So big Dark Kingdom.
[00:05:05] Speaker A: He was pulling a straight up Henry David throw, just hanging out in the woods.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: Yeah, he was. Yeah, he was.
[00:05:12] Speaker A: That's a deep cut for all you literature people.
[00:05:15] Speaker B: Nobody paid that much attention in high school. Maddie. No, we got a big sequence of the Dark Kingdom. Right? It opens with a close up on Beryl and she Says, awaken, Great Ruler, to you. I offer vital energy.
You know, here's the thing, is that I'm imagining that it's Naru's energy, and they're just passing it around because they're talking about that stuff like it's the best heroine in town.
You know what I mean?
Yeah. Try some of this.
[00:05:44] Speaker A: Naru has some good energy. It's been said a lot.
[00:05:48] Speaker B: Yeah. So Queen Beryl is kneeling down and levitating a white orb above her raised hand. A wisps of white light spiraling around the orb. And she says, hear my plea and awaken once more. Great Ruler of ours, now is the time. Arise, oh Great One. And she shoots a stream of white light up towards the ceiling, lighting up what looks like a monster skull. That's kind of what it looked like.
Into the left eye while the right eye socket remains empty. Swirls of white light cause a red pupil to become excited. The skull has both pointed teeth and tusks, and it looks like it's vomiting fire, but it's.
[00:06:26] Speaker A: It's.
[00:06:27] Speaker B: Normally, in the Dark Kingdom, it's just kind of like streaks of color and stuff like this. This is more of a form and a shape.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:34] Speaker B: So I imagine that's a Great Ruler in kind of some sort of, you know, not fully awakened state.
[00:06:40] Speaker A: It's. I mean, it's confirmed very shortly after there, when a mildly robotic voice.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: Goes.
[00:06:49] Speaker B: The ruler begins to speak in a deep, sinister voice.
So it seems as if the energy from the humans had stirred me from my long sleep. Beryl agrees. However, the Great Ruler says it's not enough, and feel itself being drawn back into a deep sleep.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: She's like, I'm sweepy.
This is a.
[00:07:08] Speaker B: So the Great Ruler says, you must locate the legendary Silver Crystal at once. Without that Silver Crystal, it will be impossible for me to make my restoration complete. And Beryl says, we're searching for it, but is it yet to be found? And then the ruler says, when the seven great Monsters are revived together with the rainbow crystals, only then will the legendary Silver Crystal shine brightly. Up to be found. So, okay, so here's the thing, right? Is that. That's a critical piece of information. So everybody. Everybody who has been assigned to find the Silver Crystal has just basically been spinning their wheel. They were never going to find it. It was never gonna shine. It was never gonna shine bright enough to be found until these seven monsters were revived.
[00:07:52] Speaker A: Yeah, but listen, the Great Ruler was sweepy, so they couldn't shout out until now.
They were taking a nap.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: It's like when I fell asleep when the guy was going to deliver a free eight ball to me and I missed it.
Thanks. How sleepy are you? An eight ball? For those of you who I was just talking about the game Billiards.
[00:08:17] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: Previous attempts to locate the Silver Crystal were pointless.
It's too dim to be found. I mean, Zoysec had a fool's errand at that point.
[00:08:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: And then Beryl goes, ah, of course.
It's as if Beryl actually knew that, but had forgotten it. You know what I mean? Like, she assigned them to find the Silver Crystal. That's right. We need to revive the seven monsters.
Thank God Naru's energy was powerful enough to awaken the sleepy great ruler. Enough to give that Naru critical piece of information.
[00:08:50] Speaker A: It's like, you know, it's. It's like a cutscene. Like, you have to be a certain level to gain this information.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: So, you know, you go.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: You completed all the side quests, you beat the first couple of easy bosses, and now you have the good stuff.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: It's kind of like Final Fantasy. You know, those really long quest chains, you know, to get something done. It's like, how long have I been looking for the Moogle's keys that he lost?
You know, that's how I feel about the Silver Crystal. It keeps getting more and more complicated.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: All right, so that's the end of the d' Artagnan De for now.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: Yes.
And it should be said that Queen Beryl says we need to get the look for the seven great Monsters. Get the rainbow crystals.
[00:09:34] Speaker B: Right?
[00:09:35] Speaker A: And they will lead us to Geen's.
[00:09:37] Speaker B: We show they talk about it some more a little bit later on.
[00:09:40] Speaker A: Yes, they do.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: They're more.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: But we do need to mention the rainbow crystals because they will come up later.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: Yeah, but.
[00:09:47] Speaker A: And.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: And we're going to talk about. About the fact that I need more information on why they're called rainbow crystals because they do not have any kind of prismatic value to them. The only rainbow crystal I've seen is just red. Anyway.
[00:10:00] Speaker A: Well, let's. Roy G. Biv. Mike. Roy G. Biv. This is the first rainbow crystal we've ever seen.
[00:10:06] Speaker B: It's. It's the R. I get it. Yeah. Okay.
All I know is that the next one better be fucking orange. So anyway, Usagi's running late for school once again.
[00:10:16] Speaker A: What?
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Luna, who, by the way, at this point, it's a new voice actor in the dub version for Luna. Luna. Luna's guy's being played By a new voice actor.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:10:28] Speaker B: It was noticeable.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: That happens with. In the original dub, that happens with Usagi. Like, her voice actually changes. And it's kind of alarming.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: It's kind of jarring.
It was just noticeable. It wasn't jarring for Luna. Luna doesn't talk as much, so it's not as noticeable.
[00:10:46] Speaker A: It's true.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Anyway, Luna's carrying Usagi's lunch, and she's running alongside. She's carrying it in her mouth. She's running alongside.
Usagi rounds the corner and at blind corner.
[00:10:57] Speaker A: Mind her. She didn't even shout corner.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: Yeah. It plows into one of three teenage boys. They call them June boys.
[00:11:03] Speaker A: All the teenage boys, I don't know. They're just. I don't know if they're teenage boys. They look like goons. Yeah, they're definitely goons.
[00:11:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And she knocks this guy to the ground.
She apologizes to the blue shirt goon. And that boy is talking of breaking his leg.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: Clearly.
[00:11:19] Speaker B: It'd be pretty easy to determine. Actually, a broken leg is something you can.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: I don't know.
It depends on the break.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: One of the other boys is put in a yellow shirt, asks Usagi what she's going to do about the broken leg, and Usagi freaks out. And then all of a sudden, a female voice from off screen says, she said, sorry. And the boys go, what? We pan up to a long brown skirt and white school uniform with brown trim to reveal a tall brunette. And she said, I saw the whole thing, boys.
She barely bumped you. That's pretty cool to count. An innocent girl. And Goon number three in green tank top faces interview with the girl and says, how dare you? And the other goon says, no one ever talks to us like that. The new girl dodges the advance of the green goon and then steps up to the side, causing the yellow goon to swerve and miss and fall to the ground. And it was like, wow. And kind of impressed Lucia. Goon runs away. Little girl asks Usagi if she's okay. Usagi says, yes. Lordgirl says, you take care of.
And she walks away. Usagi notices.
[00:12:27] Speaker A: She flips the goon over her shoulder.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: Yeah, she does.
[00:12:29] Speaker A: Yeah, she straight up. She straight up, like, beats these guys up.
[00:12:34] Speaker B: Well, the title is the powerful girl, so I mean, she's powerful. And she walks away. Usagi notices the new girl's got rose shaped earrings, and she says, so cool.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Is Usagi a little, like, crushing on her?
[00:12:46] Speaker B: Yeah, she's definitely got a girl crush. Yeah.
[00:12:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: I think it's so I'm thinking so. All right. So then we cut to the Dark Kingdom again. More and more. Dark Kingdom.
And who's Veril talking to now?
[00:12:57] Speaker A: She's talking to Zoysite and Kunsite, right? And she repeats in the cadre of random others who create the giant circle.
[00:13:08] Speaker B: Yeah, she repeats the info the Great Ruler gave her about the seven Great Monsters in the rainbow crystals.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: They were sealed away by their despicable enemy in the past, and now. Now they have been reborn as humans.
[00:13:22] Speaker B: Now I have even more contempt for this vital piece of information because Kunzeit says I remember everything about the Seven Great Monsters.
[00:13:30] Speaker A: He's like, oh, yeah, they were the.
[00:13:31] Speaker B: Strongest of our allies, but they were sealed the way eons ago by our enemy. So, okay, Kunzeid is like some kind of gay mentor to Zoisight. Right? And Zoysite's job that he was assigned by Queen Beryl is to find the Silver Crystal. Kunzite remembers everything about the Seven Great Monsters, meaning that he knew that the seven Great Monsters had to be revived before the Silver Crystal would shine bright enough to be found.
[00:13:56] Speaker A: I have never heard somebody describe Kunzite as a gay mentor before.
That's the part I'm hung up on.
[00:14:06] Speaker B: That's what he is to me. That's how I see it.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: Well, I mean, if you're gonna have a gay mentor, he's not the worst. He's not great, but he's not the worst.
[00:14:15] Speaker B: He would tell precious information.
[00:14:17] Speaker A: I mean, and he's also kind of evil, but also, he's not. Okay, Kunsite has. Kunsite is like an ogre. And ogres are like onions.
They have layers.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: Okay, so then we have a flashback. Red eyes pop open. Seven Dark Monsters, one and gather together. And we have a voiceover from Queen Beryl. She says, your memory serves you well. The legendary Seven Monsters were the most powerful warriors of all. White shot waves radiate from the monsters until the day when we were. When we suffered a great loss to our enemy. Those cowards sealed away the seven Gray Monsters into separate fragments of the legendary Silver Crystals.
[00:15:01] Speaker A: Those bitches.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: They took enemies which in my opinion would just be humanity. Right? But apparently this was humanity that had some skills.
[00:15:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:15:10] Speaker B: They were able to take these monsters and put them into fragments of the legendary silver crystals. And those fragments are the Rainbow Crystal, right?
[00:15:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:15:20] Speaker B: So the monsters get swallowed by different colored orbs as a different way. So maybe they will be different colors.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: I mean, they're different colored rainbow orbs. So.
[00:15:27] Speaker B: Okay, all right. All right.
[00:15:29] Speaker A: I'm so excited.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: I just imagine rainbow crystals, which is sparkle like prisms, you know, Rainbow crystals.
[00:15:35] Speaker A: Yeah. No, no.
[00:15:37] Speaker B: All the colors of the rainbow.
[00:15:38] Speaker A: Yes. I'm so excited. Okay. My favorite. This is the hardest part for me. My favorite rainbow crystal is the very last one, so I am going to have to wait so long.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: All right. And Roy G. Biv is seven letters.
[00:15:49] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:15:50] Speaker B: That. Seven fragments. So I'm really. Now. I'm really counting on orange to be in the next one. Anyway, so what I have written here.
[00:15:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:15:59] Speaker B: Oh. And banished them to Earth. So the monsters, they became rainbow crystals, and then they were banished to Earth. Which supports the theory that the Dark Kingdom is located in a different planet, dimension, or realm from Earth.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: Yes, it supports the theory. There's like, you're saying, okay, so I. Here I am, you're saying things, and I'm just sitting here going, because I don't want to. I don't want to spoil anything, but I love your theory.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: I can only know what I know.
[00:16:27] Speaker A: It makes me so happy. I'm like, it's so fun for me to sit here and listen to you theorize about what's going on.
And then I'm just like, so it's. This is a joy for me. This is why I do the podcast, everybody.
[00:16:42] Speaker B: Well, I mean, it would be easy enough to assume that the Dark Kingdom is just the underworld, you know what I mean?
Some sort of hell, you know, beneath the earth. But. But this, you know, if they were banished to Earth, that would put them, you know, in a realm outside of the planet. So, you know, I'm just trying to figure out where the Dark Kingdom is.
[00:17:00] Speaker A: And I mean, it was kind of like when you. When you showed. When they showed the. The Watchmay Doodles, the seven guys, the seven great monsters. That's the words I was looking for. They were out in space.
[00:17:13] Speaker B: So, yeah, okay. Okay.
[00:17:14] Speaker A: I mean.
[00:17:15] Speaker B: And so then Joyce asks, so what's become of the seven monsters? And Kunzai replies, they lost their memory of once being monsters, and they have been reborn as humans.
[00:17:25] Speaker A: How do you know all of this?
[00:17:27] Speaker B: Right? And then Zoiset says, I see. So if we remove the rainbow crystals from the reborn humans, will it lead us to the Silver Crystal? And Beryl says, yes. Seven great monsters will be reincarnated.
She then introduces a Dark Crystal from her main orb that has been modified to react.
[00:17:44] Speaker A: It's the same Dark Crystal that Nephrite made.
[00:17:47] Speaker B: Okay, but this one. This one has been modified, though, because it's modified to react to the Presence of the rainbow crystals.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Yeah, she took the dark crystal and then modded it like a hacked the crystal magic.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, because she has evil lady Alzheimer's where she forgot about the seven.
[00:18:10] Speaker A: Monsters in the crystal, you know?
[00:18:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:13] Speaker A: We don't know how old she is, so.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Zoise.
[00:18:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Zozei takes a dark crystal and says, thanks, Queen Beryl, and then immediately puts the crystal on projector mode, and it reveals some guy who holds a crystal.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: The vortex of energy shows the image of a young man with a blue baseball cap and an orange hoodie. Let's say somebody said, this is a rainbow crystal. This is a rainbow crystal inside this boy. And that's the end of the dark. That's the end of the dirt Kingdom.
We got some new. We got some new lore here with the seven great monsters and the rainbow crystals.
[00:18:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:54] Speaker B: And, you know, this is a lot of dialogue for Beryl.
I like that she's, you know, I'm not happy with the fact that she, you know, forgot some critical information.
But anyway, she has now delivered that information to us, so. Good. Good for you, Queen Barrel.
[00:19:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:10] Speaker B: We're playing now. We go to the school.
[00:19:13] Speaker A: Meanwhile, back at Juban Middle School, Usagi is eating lunch.
[00:19:17] Speaker B: Or rather, eat lunch, her favorite time of the day at school.
[00:19:22] Speaker A: It's her favorite class.
[00:19:23] Speaker B: Yep.
And so she's getting ready. She's sitting down to eat lunch. And what did she notice? What did she see?
[00:19:31] Speaker A: The girl with the rose earring. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
And before she can investigate anymore, who else appears? Harumino, of course. Our local creepy boy.
[00:19:46] Speaker B: And Numino says that girl you're stalking is a transfer student who just joined class six today. So question for you. Is that like, sixth grade? That can't be sixth grade. No, because they're older than that.
[00:19:59] Speaker A: I believe Usagi is in class five.
[00:20:03] Speaker B: Okay. And it's like a freshman or a sophomore.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: It's like a homeroom.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:20:08] Speaker A: So, yeah, it just basically denotes what your homeroom is, where your classroom is, and who your classmates are.
[00:20:13] Speaker B: Very good. So she joined class six today. Her name is Makoto Kino, and the word is that she's incredibly strong. Turns out she was kicked out of her last school for fighting. If I were you, I'd keep my distance.
[00:20:25] Speaker A: Usagi does not care.
And why does she not care?
[00:20:32] Speaker B: Because she's got a girlfriend.
[00:20:34] Speaker A: Utokino has food. Delicious looking, lovely, cute food. And that is enough for Usagi to break the ice.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Umino is still warning her and realizes that she has moved away from him, and she's slowly sneaking closer to Makoto. Zagi admires his lunch and her handbag. Makoto recognizes Usagi and invites her to join her for lunch. And of course, Usagi says that she doesn't eat that. She said, you know, she doesn't eat much, but she'll go ahead.
[00:21:03] Speaker A: Not a big eater. She lied.
[00:21:05] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Makoto says that everyone at the school seems to be afraid to talk to her. And Usagi tells Makoto that her mom makes a great lunch.
[00:21:13] Speaker A: Not only that is something to note. Here is. Usagi immediately gives her a nickname and asks if that's okay, which is very, very forward. Because usually when you first meet somebody, you're going to call them, you know, you're going to be very formal in Japan, I mean, their whole society and language, a lot of them, based on how polite you are.
[00:21:36] Speaker B: So what. What is senpai? That is an older classmate.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: Yes, it is an older classmate or like a mentor, like a couple years older than you that you look up to.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: So in this case, Makoto would probably be Usagi senpai.
[00:21:51] Speaker A: Well, no, because. Well, while Usagi does look up to her because she's tall.
They are the same age.
[00:21:58] Speaker B: So the same age.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: And they're in the same grade.
[00:22:01] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:22:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: Is Rei the same age as Usagi or she's.
[00:22:05] Speaker A: They're all. They're. All of. All of them are in the same grade.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: They're all 14.
[00:22:08] Speaker A: They. They're 14. Like, yeah, they're. They're all 14. They're. They're 14. Unless, of course, they were born later in the year. Then they might be 15, but, you know, whatever.
Yeah, so, yeah, so Usagi usually gives her a nickname, which is very, very forward of her, which the nickname is.
[00:22:24] Speaker B: What? Cause I just now my notes, I wrote down Makoto, because that's her name. What is Usagi's nickname for her?
[00:22:29] Speaker A: She immediately calls her Makochan, specifically Makochan, because it's a shortening of her name, Makoto. And then she uses the honorific Chan, which is very. Which is very informal. It's what you do for people who you're very close to. So normally, if it's somebody you just met, you would use the honor of Hiksan if they're, like, similar in age.
[00:22:49] Speaker B: And so chan is like an intimate.
[00:22:52] Speaker A: Yes, Right. Yeah. And Usagi uses it for everybody. She immediately called Amy Ami, Ami chan, Rei chan, Mako chan.
[00:23:01] Speaker B: So that's because Usagi is all about intimacy. So.
[00:23:04] Speaker A: Yeah, she's she's just. She's just super nice. She's super friendly, and she just wants to be friends with people she likes. You don't seem as scary as people are telling me you. When she met Ami chan, like, she was told, oh, don't go near that girl. She's a snob. This, that, and the other. Because she, you know, is so smart. She's above all.
He was like, is she really though? I'm gonna get to know her. And the same thing with Rei now with Mako, everyone's saying, I don't know about her. And she's like, no, no, no, no, no. I think there's potential there.
[00:23:35] Speaker B: Right?
[00:23:35] Speaker A: Which is one of the main reasons I love Usaki.
[00:23:37] Speaker B: She's just gotten a pretty good warning from Umino.
The dude has got all of the juice on people. You know what I mean?
He's your go to guy if you want info on somebody. And he's telling Usagi to stay away. Usagi totally ignores him.
And so then we go to the Game center crown.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: It should be said that she compliments her. Usagi compliments Mako chan's mom as an awesome chef. And then Mako chan mentions that she made it all herself. So Usagi is very impressed by her. And then Umino is very impressed by Usagi's ability to make friends.
[00:24:15] Speaker B: To make friends. Yeah.
[00:24:16] Speaker A: Which is true. I mean, Arcade.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: She is. She is pretty. She is. She is pretty good at making friends.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: Yes. She's extremely good at it.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: My sister. My sister was really good at making friends. She just came naturally to her. She just had. She always had a lot of friends. It was very easy for her.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:31] Speaker B: Anyway, so. Game center crown.
And Usagi asks Makoto why she isn't wearing the school uniform. And Makoto says, what I'm wearing now suits me better.
[00:24:41] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what suits me more.
[00:24:43] Speaker B: And then Usagi notes that it looks like Motoki isn't working there today. And Makoto asks if Motoki is Usagi's boyfriend or no.
It seems like she's gonna ask if it's Usagi's boyfriend, but she says, Makoto Usagi's older brother or cousin.
[00:24:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: And Usagi gets all clustered in the.
[00:25:02] Speaker A: In the dub.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: In the dub.
[00:25:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Interesting. She just says older brother in the sub, but that's because. And it's. It's a logical assumption for her to make because Usagi calls him Motoki oni san. And oni san means older brother.
[00:25:17] Speaker B: Oh, there you go.
[00:25:19] Speaker A: It's such an Easy thing to confuse.
[00:25:22] Speaker B: So at that point, Usagi gets all flustered and responds by telling Motoki that he's very special, but never labels a very special. What? He's just a very, very special. And just hangs there.
[00:25:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Because she notices that Mako chan has already moved on from the conversation and is now playing video games.
[00:25:40] Speaker B: And she's playing the Sailor Bee game.
[00:25:41] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: Then Ammy and Rei and Luna enter.
[00:25:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:44] Speaker B: And Ami tells Usagi that Luna is concerned about Makoto. And Usagi close it off, saying Luna worries too much. Usagi introduces Makoto to Ami and Rei as Ami the really smart one and Rei the really mean one. Ray asked for a specific date and time that she was mean to Usagi. And Usagi says, don't you think you're being mean to me right now?
And Makoto goes, how nice you get along so well. Henry says, no way. As soon as we see each other, starts an argument every time because they beg you siblings.
She says, well, the more angry, the closer you are.
And Ami says, that's a good one, Makoto. And Makoto notices Luna and starts scratching under Luna's chin. Luna purrs with enthusiastic approval. And then the girl's attention is drawn to a crowd gathering around a boy playing the Skill Train game.
We see him collect a Sailor B plush doll. And right after that, he picks up a Sailor Mercury plush doll and drops into the prize slot.
[00:26:45] Speaker A: And a weird dino. He gets two. Because right before he gets this right as he's getting the Sailor Mercury dino, something weird happens.
Yeah, he's like. Well, he's. He's going for. He won the Sailor V. And this is. We. We learned his name is Joe the Crane game troll.
And so right as he gets to Sailor Mercury, he. Right before he does something, we're not really sure what it is, but there's like a camera effect and a shake.
[00:27:12] Speaker B: And then I didn't notice it.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: The weird dino pops up and then he wins both.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: It makes sense with what he reveals later on. I didn't notice it though, when I took the.
So Usagi bumps into a classmate, Yumi. And Yumi explains the boy is known as Joe the Crane game troll and said that every time he plays, he gets a stuffed animal. He must have hundreds of them.
He said, wow, awesome. Usagi turns to Makoto to get her opinion of Joe Makoto. Makoto has this glazed over look on her face and she stunned. And she's just like him.
[00:27:44] Speaker A: He's just like my senpai.
[00:27:46] Speaker B: Colorful bubbles and stars float up in front of Joe's face. And Makoto lets out a breathy remark. My first love. Kusaki tries but fails to bring Makoto back to reality. Joe is seen walking away from Gameside Crown with a large bag of stuffed animals. Suddenly, Zozat appears.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: What?
[00:28:04] Speaker B: Yeah, so I mean, this is how this goes in their world.
Whoever's the active general or Dark Kingdom king that's, you know, actively opposed to the Guardians, you know, they pop up. I found you. He takes the crystal that Beryl gave him and tosses it at Joe. The crystal stops in midair and starts emitting yellow waves of energy pulsing in front of Joe. Joe is quickly overwhelmed by these energy waves as he.
As he arches back and moans. A void appears in the center of Joe's chest with a little heart shaped crystal, invisible in the void.
[00:28:40] Speaker A: I gotta say, the void really like, it makes. It gives me the ick. It makes me think of my like. It activates my like trypophobia. And I'm like, I hate it very much. But I would also like to point out that during this scene, the soundtrack is fire.
I didn't know it's so good. You gotta go back and just like, see, I was.
[00:29:00] Speaker B: I. When I saw the void in Joe's chest, I was. I thought Indiana Jones in the Temple.
[00:29:06] Speaker A: Of Doom, when he grabs.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: When he get that. The priest shoves his hand into his chest and pulls his heart out.
[00:29:14] Speaker A: Kalima.
Kalima.
[00:29:17] Speaker B: Such a great scene.
So after Zoiseit throws the crystal at Joe, Makoto appears. Makoto says, stop that. You shouldn't bully people weaker than yourself. Zoe say curses and snatches the crystal back, threatens Makoto for interfering. Makoto tries to attack Zozite, but she dodges each of her attempts.
[00:29:39] Speaker A: Yeah, but she's like willing to fight him. Even though she's not a scout, she'll fight anyone. Looks like I adore her.
[00:29:48] Speaker B: And just what was that? And Makoto says, I'm not done yet. Zo said. Chuckles says, how barbaric. And Makoto is slowly winning this fight. She's giving it despite her all. She even grabs her earring and throws it at Joe. Jose dodges the earring, but he fails to dodge the subsequent blow to the face from Magodox. And Zoe said, you prehistoric witch. You scarred my precious face.
[00:30:17] Speaker A: You scarred my precious face.
[00:30:19] Speaker B: I can't do his. I can't do his broody delivery.
[00:30:23] Speaker A: You prehistoric magic.
[00:30:25] Speaker B: You.
[00:30:26] Speaker A: My precious face.
Zoisard's so over the top.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: I just imagine rather Queenie. That would be my note for that dialogue rather Queenie.
[00:30:37] Speaker A: He's a dandy.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: Usagi is frantically searching for Makoto. She calls out, mako. And just then, she spots Makoto on a lower level, squaring off with Joe. Usagi runs to the area. Makoto and Joe are still recovering their fight. Usagi rushes to Joe, who is on his knee and not looking too good. Makoto reaches out to comfort Joe. As soon as her hand touches his chest, Joe recoils and yells, don't touch me.
Rude. Mind your own business. Leave me alone. Yeah. He says, what's the problem? We're only trying to help. And Joe has a good lead on walking away from Usagi and Makoto. And Makoto runs toward Joe. Usagi says, what's going on here? Suddenly, Luna speaks out. Luna says, I can sense it. I got a super evil aura from that guy he brought. That means he might be from the Dark Kingdom.
What?
Yeah. Yeah.
I would keep. If I was Sailor Moon, I would keep Luna with me all the time. Luna. Luna can sense stuff.
[00:31:39] Speaker A: You know what I mean? Yeah. Luna is something special. But, you know, it might look a little weird if you have a cat with you all the time.
[00:31:45] Speaker B: I don't care. I don't care.
[00:31:46] Speaker A: I mean, in this state, if it.
[00:31:47] Speaker B: Were, I would want the advantage of her being able to sense if the Dark Kingdom is nearby now, as opposed to having to guess. You know, one of my classmates is acting rather strange. I wonder if they were. You know, they've been infected by the dark.
[00:32:00] Speaker A: Wonder what happened.
[00:32:03] Speaker B: So, yeah, Then Usagi says, wait. And that's it. Mako and Joe are in serious danger.
[00:32:11] Speaker A: Dun, dun, dun. Yeah, yeah. And then Makotan starts to stalk Joe.
[00:32:18] Speaker B: Kind of, right?
And he says to stop bothering her.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:21] Speaker B: And she says she's just afraid others will try to hurt him. And she jokes that maybe people are mad about all of his wins at the crane game. And she happens to be his bodyguard. And she asked if she. If. If he could teach her how to win at the crane game. And.
[00:32:36] Speaker A: And he's like, do it.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: She said she should never do it. And he leaves his chest.
[00:32:41] Speaker A: He's a dick.
[00:32:41] Speaker B: And then he grabs his chest and he hurries into the coffee shop. And he tells Makoto that he lets you enjoy his coffee alone. So he shuts her down yet again.
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: And he catches up to see the coffee shop door close to Makoto. Makoto's face. And he says he used to got an attitude. And then Makoto says, that's why I like him. You see, he.
He reminds Me of the guy who broke my heart.
I know. What is it with girls who like being treated like shit? I don't.
[00:33:07] Speaker A: I don't get just girl. You deserve better.
[00:33:11] Speaker B: However, Usagi admires Makoto to herself. She says, now that is the face of a girl who's in love.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: Usagi.
[00:33:18] Speaker B: I know. Usagi encourages Makoto to go into the coffee shop and talk to Joe.
[00:33:23] Speaker A: My exact notes, by the way, are, Makoto likes him because he's exactly like the guy who broke her heart. Makoto, have some respect for yourself. Oh, my God, please stop. This is a bad idea. Stop encouraging her, Usagi.
[00:33:35] Speaker B: Yeah, Usagi. Usagi's not doing her any favors at this point. I mean, he literally, like, shut the door in her face. And Usagi's like, no, you should go in there and talk to him. And so goes into the coffee shop, and he likes gestures, and he allows Makoto to sit down. He explains the reason that she can't learn to win with the crane game.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: Well, it should be noted first that as she sits down, he's like, don't. Don't get me confused. Don't get this twisted. I just. I just didn't like you. I didn't like seeing you sit outside.
It annoyed me.
[00:34:08] Speaker B: It was too annoying seeing you sitting outside staring in.
[00:34:11] Speaker A: So I invited you in, so I'd rather you sit here, but I still don't want you around.
[00:34:16] Speaker B: Yeah. So he explains that the reason she could never be good at the Skill Crane like he is is that she doesn't have this special power. And then he puts his hand out and he levitates an ashtray sitting on the table. And I just. So awesome.
There are not ashtrays in coffee shops anymore. There are no ashtrays.
[00:34:36] Speaker A: Actually, in Japan. There might be.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: They still allow it. Okay.
[00:34:41] Speaker A: They still have smoking sections and non smoking sections in Japan.
[00:34:45] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:34:45] Speaker A: At least they did 10 years ago. I don't know if anymore, but 10 years ago, when I was there, they did.
[00:34:49] Speaker B: I just imagine Gen Alpha doesn't even know what an ashtray is.
[00:34:53] Speaker A: No, maybe they do. Maybe Gen Alpha, in places where pot is legal, know what an ashtray is.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: There you go. There you go.
And Makoto asked him if he considers that cheating that he has telekinesis. That would be the skill that he has.
[00:35:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:08] Speaker B: He doesn't know what to call it. But that's not telekinesis. But you can move objects with your mind.
[00:35:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:12] Speaker B: And he says no. He says it's not cheating.
[00:35:14] Speaker A: He says it's not cheating. I don't care.
[00:35:17] Speaker B: And then at that moment a waitress comes over and to take order. And at first she orders rice something.
Order that at a coffee shop. Then she quick. She quickly changes her order to a more reasonable one which is like tea and milk or something.
[00:35:33] Speaker A: Milk tea? Milk tea is a very specific. It's not just milk and tea. It's like a very specific thing. It's milk tea. It's very good.
[00:35:40] Speaker B: So then we cut to the waitress who we want to see Makoto talking to. And we realize that it's Zoisite.
[00:35:48] Speaker A: What?
[00:35:49] Speaker B: And Joe and Makoto jump up and Zoid knocks them away with some sort of energy blast. So Zoisite has whatever. Whatever spell or ability that he has. It's like a. It's like a shockwave. It's like. You know what I mean? Some sort of King Thompson shock.
[00:36:05] Speaker A: Shockwave.
Yeah.
[00:36:08] Speaker B: And Makoto is momentarily knocked unconscious.
And Joe begins to run away.
[00:36:13] Speaker A: Yeah. Usagi takes him to TA T.
She's.
[00:36:17] Speaker B: Like, you're crawling away and leaving Mako behind. He says, I don't care about her. She's the one who decided to follow me.
[00:36:24] Speaker A: I'm not into giant girls anyway.
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. He says, what's that? You think of yourself as a man acting this way.
And Joe says, she's not my responsibility. Plus giant girls really aren't my type. And we cut to a close up of a kind of shocked look.
[00:36:41] Speaker A: Rushed.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: Yep. And Joyce said casts another one of these guts of blasts at the plate class window. And he jumps through after it shatters. And then he starts doing giant hops down the sidewalk. So weird.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: He's a dandy. I'm telling you.
[00:36:56] Speaker B: He comes out this broken window. He gets inside like. And he starts jumping like he's on the moon.
[00:37:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:02] Speaker B: To propel himself down the sidewalk.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: Zoisight is extra about everything.
[00:37:08] Speaker B: And then Luna remarks. I knew it. That guy is from the Dark Kingdom.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: He's extra.
[00:37:13] Speaker B: Yeah. What gave it away that he could do magic and then he was attacking people?
[00:37:17] Speaker A: What gave it away?
He has the same uniform that the other uniform had.
[00:37:23] Speaker B: Exactly. And so Sailor Moon asked Makoto if she's okay. And Makoto replies, that's the second time a guy I like said that about referring to that she's giant. So at this point I'd like to ask, how tall is she?
Jupiter.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: Oh.
It's almost like I had this prepared because I have it open and she is.
[00:37:46] Speaker B: I'm gonna say 6:1.
[00:37:47] Speaker A: Where is her height? Yo. I tried to be prepared. Okay.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: Did they make her so large Because Jupiter is the largest planet.
[00:37:53] Speaker A: I don't. I couldn't tell you how tall is.
[00:37:56] Speaker B: I mean, I could Google it.
[00:37:58] Speaker A: No, I'm Googling it. I'm asking the intern.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Oh, I'm sorry.
[00:38:02] Speaker A: Rude.
[00:38:03] Speaker B: Well, I don't. I don't live with the intern, so I. I don't. You know, I. I have to do stuff myself.
All right, well, let me know when the intern gets back to you on that.
[00:38:11] Speaker A: He's five five.
[00:38:12] Speaker B: He's five five. That's a giant five five.
[00:38:16] Speaker A: It is in.
It is in Japan.
[00:38:20] Speaker B: Five' five and tall.
[00:38:21] Speaker A: Huh? Okay. She's also 14. Oh, and also, by the way, I'm.
[00:38:26] Speaker B: Five' girls who were six feet tall when they were 14.
Carolyn Frisk. She was six feet tall when she was 14.
She played a lot of basketball.
[00:38:37] Speaker A: That makes sense.
Yes, she is.
Pardon me. She's. Yeah, she's five' six. Actually, would you like to know the height of the other three? Zagi is four' eleven.
[00:38:49] Speaker B: Four' eleven?
[00:38:50] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:38:54] Speaker B: I just don't think of Japanese people as that. As being that much shorter.
[00:38:58] Speaker A: Ami Chan is 5:2 and Rei Chan is 5:3.
[00:39:01] Speaker B: Rei is 5:3?
[00:39:02] Speaker A: Yeah. So comparatively, she is a giant girl.
[00:39:05] Speaker B: So Makoto is just 2 inches taller than Ray?
[00:39:08] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:39:09] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Two or three, depending on the source.
[00:39:11] Speaker B: I'm just going. I'm just saying, visually, she's 6:1. So after she laments that it's the second time that a guy she liked said that she was a giant, she says, I've had it. And she runs out of the coffee shop. Joe runs after Zoysite, and he runs into Zoysite. Zoisight says, you don't have to run away. After all, you're one of us. And Joe questions one of you, and Zoysite doesn't explain what he meant. He never explains why. That's why he's one of us. Instead, he points his arm towards Joe and says, I'm taking your rainbow crystal.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: He's not explaining anything.
[00:39:45] Speaker B: Just it's red, not rainbow colored, mentioned earlier.
Crystals give off like some crystals do.
[00:39:56] Speaker A: Some crystals don't.
Rubies are a crystal, and they're not a bunch of colors.
[00:40:02] Speaker B: I think of crystals as, like clear quartz, and that when light hits them, they give off an iridescent multicolored effect.
[00:40:10] Speaker A: Some crystals do, but not all quartz.
[00:40:11] Speaker B: That was just the. Yeah, listen, I toured with the Grateful Dead. I literally saw colored shoot out of crystals when I was tripping on lsd.
[00:40:20] Speaker A: Listen.
[00:40:21] Speaker B: Like swirling rainbows just come shooting out of These crystals.
[00:40:24] Speaker A: That's not coming from the crystals. That's coming from your brain.
[00:40:28] Speaker B: That's what I was hoping for. When I heard we were gonna have some rainbow crystals, I was like, cool. I haven't seen that in a while. Anyway, Makoto arrives just to see Zoisight steal Joe's rainbow crystal.
And Sailor Moon arrives and senses her.
[00:40:42] Speaker A: Time to see Zoisight steal Joe's rainbow crystal.
[00:40:45] Speaker B: And she says, and also, when did she transform?
That was my.
[00:40:52] Speaker A: Sometime in the. How did she excuse herself from Makoto in the cafe to go transform?
[00:40:58] Speaker B: Well, Makoto ran away from her.
She said, that's it. After being called a giant girl, she takes off, leaving Usagi. So Usagi would have had time to transform undetected as she was kind of tracking Makoto. But, you know, and obviously she knew that. And, you know, this is the second time Luna had said the Dark Kingdoms, you know, in play. So it was pretty much time to transform, basically. Sailor Moon says, hold it, you. To Zoicite. And Makura is shocked to see Sailor Moon.
[00:41:32] Speaker A: She's like, oh, Sailor Moon.
[00:41:34] Speaker B: I know.
Oh, my God. You're a little too late, Sailor Moon. And Sailor Moon asks Zoisite who he is. Like, he knows who she is. You know what I mean? Who are you? And he introduces himself as one of the Dark Kingdom's four Kings of Hemming. Zoisight. Yeah. And then he says, I think I'll let Jameson take care of the rest of this.
[00:41:52] Speaker A: Oh, Gameson.
[00:41:53] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like, I'm Soysight, one of the, you know, four Kings of Heaven. But I think I'll let Jameson take care of.
[00:42:01] Speaker A: Can't be bothered.
[00:42:02] Speaker B: And he disappears in a swarm of flower petals. And Makoto goes, he vanished.
[00:42:11] Speaker A: He vanished with his laugh. Because once again, Extra Zoise doesn't really.
[00:42:16] Speaker B: He doesn't really need to be there anymore. He got his rainbow crystal.
[00:42:20] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. He's not there for fighting. He's there for crystals.
[00:42:24] Speaker B: And he knows what's gonna happen, which is that a cyclone encircles Joe and a Yoma appears. That Yoma looks very much like a red Power Ranger, in my opinion.
[00:42:34] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:42:34] Speaker B: But anyway. And so what I loved was that when he appeared, he announced his name, Game Sen. And all I could think was, just like, a fucking Pokemon, man. Because you know how when Pokemon spawn, they say their name?
[00:42:49] Speaker A: This is the first Game Sen is the first monster of the day in the series to do that.
[00:42:54] Speaker B: Right. But do you know what I mean? In Pokemon, when they. When they come out of the Pokeball they say their name. You know what I mean? Yeah. And so I was just like, this is like Pokemon.
[00:43:02] Speaker A: Ah, man.
[00:43:04] Speaker B: So Gamesen sports a long shaft from his right hand with what looks like a croquet mallet at the end. And he takes several swipes at Sailor Moon.
[00:43:15] Speaker A: There's arcade noises being made.
[00:43:18] Speaker B: Huh?
[00:43:18] Speaker A: There's arcade noises being made with all of the stuff as his arm transforms into a mallet and all that stuff. Arcade noises.
[00:43:26] Speaker B: I know.
[00:43:26] Speaker A: He's an arcade guy. He's a.
[00:43:28] Speaker B: He's a what?
[00:43:28] Speaker A: He's. He's an arcade guy. He's Game Sen, which is short Game Center.
[00:43:33] Speaker B: Okay. I thought he was a fucking monster. And he is a monster.
[00:43:37] Speaker A: He's just an arcade monster.
[00:43:38] Speaker B: Monsters to me have like fangs and stuff.
And then they don't wear Power Ranger suits and sport croquet mallets.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: Listen, you're going to have to deal with a lot of weird monsters coming up.
[00:43:50] Speaker B: Okay? All right, Fair enough. Yeah, I'm open minded. Suddenly, Makoto picks up. Kidding. That's a. He picks him up. I love that. See, that's why she's 6:1, okay?
Because at 5:6, she's not lifting up any men.
[00:44:03] Speaker A: And she says, I can barely pick up Joe and I'm five seven. So.
[00:44:09] Speaker B: And Makoto, after she picks him up, she says. And just what it is you think you're trying to do to my hero, Sailor Moon?
I didn't realize that Sailor Moon was her hero. Yeah, I did know that she liked the Sailor V game, but it turns.
[00:44:24] Speaker A: Well, Sailor Moon's getting pretty popular in the Juban area because she saved a lot of people.
[00:44:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:29] Speaker A: And there was that whole time with Jadeite and he announced it to the world, and no one really acknowledged it after that night when he made a huge thing in the sky about Sailor Moon.
[00:44:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay, so then at that point, something very special happens to Makoto. And what is that?
[00:44:42] Speaker A: A green M shows up or not green m, a green 4 rather shows up on her forehead, which means that Luna gets to do the thing.
[00:44:51] Speaker B: Okay, here's a question for you.
[00:44:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:44:55] Speaker B: The symbol for the number four, the same one that we use in Japan, they use the same character for the number four.
[00:45:02] Speaker A: And that's also not a number four. It looks like a number four, but it's not.
[00:45:05] Speaker B: Okay, here's why I thought it was number four, because Sailor Moon was number one.
Sailor Moon was number one. Sailor Merger was number two.
Number three. And so all of a sudden, Jupiter has a four on her forehead.
[00:45:18] Speaker A: Remember how Sailor Mercury had A blue symbol on her head?
[00:45:21] Speaker B: No, I don't remember that at all.
[00:45:23] Speaker A: Hers had a red symbol on her head that kind of looked like.
[00:45:28] Speaker B: That was my question. Maddie was, did AMI have a tattoo on her forehead?
[00:45:33] Speaker A: She did not. No. She had a symbol on her head that looked kind of similar to its.
[00:45:40] Speaker B: So what is the sign that appears on Makoto's forehead? What is that?
[00:45:43] Speaker A: It's the symbol for Jupiter.
As a planet?
[00:45:46] Speaker B: No, the symbol for Jupiter was the number four.
Very interesting because that's a fucking number four.
[00:45:52] Speaker A: It is. It definitely is. But it's also the symbol for Jupiter.
[00:45:56] Speaker B: Okay.
And so when that appears, Luna says that sign.
[00:46:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Luna gets to do the thing.
[00:46:03] Speaker B: Right, Exactly. So if Luna can detect the Dark Kingdom, how come she can't detect a Sailor Guardian?
[00:46:09] Speaker A: But she can't. She can, but she also can't. Like, from the beginning, she's been like, something's weird about that girl. Something's weird about that girl. I have my concerns about that girl. And she did the same thing with Rey. Literally the same thing.
[00:46:21] Speaker B: She literally had to wait until the sign for Jupiter appeared on her porch.
[00:46:26] Speaker A: She had to do this. She had to do the same thing for the other two.
Like the.
She barely. The only reason she didn't have to do it for Sailor Moon was because she removed the thing. So Luna was like, I guess you get to be the person.
[00:46:43] Speaker B: So then at that point, Makoto throws Jameson basically across the park.
[00:46:47] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:46:48] Speaker B: He launches him across the park. Yeah.
[00:46:51] Speaker A: Yeet.
[00:46:52] Speaker B: Jameson says his name again. Gameson, Gavean. And then a pincer sprouts out of his hand and it grabs Sailor Moon.
[00:47:01] Speaker A: It's a claw from a claw game.
[00:47:02] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Okay, I missed that. Makoto starts to run towards Sailor Moon and Luna stops her and tells her she's a Sailor Guardian and gives her a transformation pass.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: Yeah. And she's like, whoa, you can talk.
[00:47:15] Speaker B: I know. Yeah, you talk.
[00:47:16] Speaker A: Which is the appropriate response.
[00:47:19] Speaker B: Yeah. But she, you know, that's about it, though. She totally believes that she is this thing. And she just takes the. She just takes the transformation pen and repeats after Luna. Jupiter power make up. And then she becomes an asexual nude who gets dressed up in a Sailor Guardian outfit. I don't like the color scheme to her outfit.
[00:47:43] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:47:43] Speaker B: I really don't. I don't.
[00:47:45] Speaker A: I didn't used to like it when I was younger.
[00:47:47] Speaker B: Those are not complimentary colors.
[00:47:49] Speaker A: They are, though. They really are.
I.
It's like a watermelon, my dude.
[00:47:56] Speaker B: It's the.
The Color scheme bothers me. Like the other three, they've got good. They've got good outfits.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: So does she.
[00:48:04] Speaker B: No.
[00:48:04] Speaker A: Yes, she does.
[00:48:05] Speaker B: That's not a magical girl outfit. That's all I'm saying.
[00:48:07] Speaker A: It 10,000% is. And maybe it's a little more tomboyish because she's a tomboy Magical girl.
[00:48:13] Speaker B: Terrible color scheme.
[00:48:14] Speaker A: It's a wonderful color scheme.
[00:48:16] Speaker B: Well, and here's the thing, is that she's the most kick ass of them. She didn't have a really good outfit.
[00:48:22] Speaker A: No, but she's got like great shoes too, because she's got like the little like short boots.
[00:48:26] Speaker B: I didn't even notice the shoes because the color scheme was so awful.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: The color scheme is great. So for those of you who don't know, the color scheme for Sailor Jupiter is a dark foresty green. For her skirt, her like a pink collar and her shoes. And then for her bow. Her bow.
They are a light pink. Yeah.
[00:48:46] Speaker B: Terrible.
[00:48:47] Speaker A: It's wonderful.
[00:48:48] Speaker B: So anyway, so we have the reveal. She is now Sailor Jupiter. And she immediately dodges an attack by Gameson. And then she calls out, jupiter, my guardian planet, bring forth a storm. Summon the clouds and bring down your thunder. So she immediately embraces that she is Sailor Jupiter.
[00:49:07] Speaker A: Hell yeah.
[00:49:10] Speaker B: And then she brings the noise was the attack Supreme Thunder. And calls out supreme thunder. A bolt of lightning hits the. What do you call that on her head?
[00:49:21] Speaker A: Lightning rod.
[00:49:22] Speaker B: It's a lightning rod. That's on.
[00:49:24] Speaker A: It's on Tiara.
[00:49:26] Speaker B: It's.
[00:49:27] Speaker A: Yeah, that's why.
That's why it's Moon Tiara. Action.
[00:49:31] Speaker B: Okay, but Hertz has a lightning rod. Hertz has the lightning rod.
[00:49:35] Speaker A: And the lightning rod has a visor.
[00:49:38] Speaker B: Okay, very good. And the bolt of lightning becomes a ball of lightning. And she shoots it at Gameson and.
[00:49:46] Speaker A: And it hurts.
[00:49:47] Speaker B: Sailor Moon misheard what she called out when she did her attack. And she says Supreme Sunday, which I think is great. And then Jupiter says, one more blast. And because the first blast doesn't kill Gamesen, but it does. Back him back. And Luna's like, no, don't. That monster still has a human heart. I remember he used to be a human being. Buzz kill, Luna. And.
[00:50:06] Speaker A: Damn it, Luna.
[00:50:08] Speaker B: And then Sailor Moon says, then how are we supposed to stop him? And Luna says, you have to turn that monster back into its original form. And Luna does her thing where she splits in the air. And yeah. When she flips in the air. And at the arch of the flip, she summons an object.
[00:50:24] Speaker A: I love it when she does that.
[00:50:26] Speaker B: I Know, because Luna doesn't have a backpack or pocket.
[00:50:29] Speaker A: No.
[00:50:29] Speaker B: So she has to go.
[00:50:30] Speaker A: She's got a magical pocket dimension. It's very common in all Magical Girl.
[00:50:34] Speaker B: Well, right. But for whatever the villager is, they have that kind of ability.
[00:50:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Magical pocket dimension.
[00:50:41] Speaker B: So here's the question. What was the first Magical Girl manga? Who invented the genre?
[00:50:46] Speaker A: So we discussed this in a previous episode, but it was.
[00:50:51] Speaker B: Well, I forgot.
[00:50:52] Speaker A: It's been a while. I don't remember the name of the first, like official Magical Girl thing, but it is one of the series that Sailor Moon kind of pulled from in the style. But Sailor Moon.
[00:51:06] Speaker B: How many years after that came the original Magical Girl story came out? Was Sailor Moon created? You know what I mean? Roughly.
[00:51:14] Speaker A: It was called Sally the Witch and it was 1966.
[00:51:17] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:51:18] Speaker A: But it didn't really take off that much. And it was like most Magical Girls stuff was inspired by like Bewitched and things of that nature. And then Sailor Moon came around and revolutionized it and made it into something different and pushed it. It still gave it magic, but pushed it away from like the magical witchy sort of thing and then catapulted it into what it is today.
[00:51:44] Speaker B: Right. Yeah. Because I believe that Sailor Moon brought a lot of fighting into this, into the. The magical girl genre.
[00:51:51] Speaker A: It very well might have.
[00:51:53] Speaker B: It might not have been there before, at any rate. So what is it that Luna has pulled out of her interdimensional bag of.
[00:51:59] Speaker A: Holding a moon stick.
[00:52:02] Speaker B: The Moon stick.
[00:52:03] Speaker A: It's the most original, well thought name ever.
And it is a pink stick wand type thing with a crescent moon, a gold bottom, and it's got a crescent moon on the top of it. And it's. The crescent moon is very sharp.
[00:52:19] Speaker B: And what does the moon stick do, Maddie? The moon stick turns monsters back to their original form.
[00:52:24] Speaker A: It do. It does. It turns monsters back into their original form. And if you would like a demonstration, I do have a proplica of the moon Stick that makes noise.
[00:52:35] Speaker B: But you have to. It comes with an enchantment.
What is the spell that you have to call upon?
[00:52:41] Speaker A: Healing, Escalation.
[00:52:46] Speaker B: Wound healing, Escalation. I don't think of healing. Okay, so here's the thing, right?
[00:52:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:52:50] Speaker B: When I think of escalation, I think of something, you know, like a disagreement escalating into a brawl. Right?
[00:52:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:00] Speaker B: The situation certainly that escalated quickly. Right. And I don't think healing as an escalation. I think healing is something that happens in kind of a steady timeline. You know what I mean?
[00:53:11] Speaker A: Well, the definition of Escalation is a rapid increase or an increase in intensity or seriousness and intensification. And if you're thinking about it, this person has been turned into a monster. She is healing it, and she's trying to heal it fast.
[00:53:27] Speaker B: Okay. It just seems like. Like it should just be a cleanse, right?
[00:53:32] Speaker A: Yeah. As. As. As. This is probably the weirdest of her, like, attack phrases that I can think of.
[00:53:40] Speaker B: Okay. Really?
I thought there was some strange shit coming up.
[00:53:44] Speaker A: I mean, there is.
[00:53:46] Speaker B: Okay. All right. Okay.
[00:53:47] Speaker A: This one, I feel like, is the. The one that I dislike the most, but I do have. Have that, and it makes that proplica. And it does make the exact same noises that the wand does in the anime.
[00:53:58] Speaker B: I'm. I'm. I'm guessing that for the rest of the series, this is the only time that the Jomans are going to be humans that were transformed into monsters.
[00:54:08] Speaker A: This is fantastic.
[00:54:09] Speaker B: She's not going to have the healing escalation. Too many monsters.
Other than these seven. Because then we see gameson turns back into Joe.
[00:54:17] Speaker A: Yes. But before he turns back into Joe, the start of my absolute favorite trope occurs, and that is the death phrase.
Because as Joe is. As Gameson is hit by the healing, gameson goes refresh and then turns back into Joe. So it's one of my favorite things. First monster. First monster to do that. Here's a couple of firsts for gameson. Gameson really tops the charts.
[00:54:45] Speaker B: Well, refresh is a gaming term, so.
[00:54:49] Speaker A: Gameson is the first monster of the day in the series to repeatedly say his own name.
He's also the first humanoid monster of the day, who is male and the first one to be created from a human. He's also the first monster of the day to scream a set phrase.
Yep, yep.
[00:55:07] Speaker B: All true.
[00:55:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:08] Speaker B: Did you notice he was abs. You know, did you notice he was missing from the fight?
[00:55:12] Speaker A: Missing from the fight, but not missing from my heart.
[00:55:15] Speaker B: Mercury and Mars right there.
[00:55:16] Speaker A: I was thinking of Bay.
[00:55:18] Speaker B: I was going to get to that, but. But, yeah, she wasn't there either.
[00:55:22] Speaker A: That's because she wasn't in enough danger. She has to be in danger.
[00:55:25] Speaker B: She really wasn't. I mean, she wasn't doing too well against the croquet mallet. No, but the thing is, Makoto came in and saved the day. Yeah, she let me.
[00:55:35] Speaker A: She was probably, like, half transformed. Like, he was just about to, like, put on the other leg of his pants and the top hat, and then he was like, never mind. The warning signals have turned off. I don't need to Go. Okay. I'm good. Yeah, I'm good.
[00:55:50] Speaker B: That's totally what happened.
[00:55:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
So now they weren't there.
[00:55:57] Speaker B: Let's just wrap up the episode real quick, and we'll talk about what wasn't there and what. Okay.
[00:56:01] Speaker A: So much.
[00:56:02] Speaker B: All right. So Luna proclaims that Makoto is Sailor Jupiter.
Yeah. And that makes four of them. And that Sailor Moon is the default leader of the Guardians. And why is that? Because she has the fucking moon stick. Yeah, because that's what makes her the leader.
[00:56:18] Speaker A: The Moon Stick. That's who the leader is. You get a Moon Stick, you're the leader. It's like, you know, you get.
[00:56:25] Speaker B: Sailor Mars isn't going to get the Moon stick. It's not the Mars stick. It's the Moon stick. So Sailor Moon, not only having been discovered first by Luna, was the obvious choice for leader.
[00:56:37] Speaker A: I mean, yes, she's the most responsible and the most dedicated and the most coordinated.
[00:56:44] Speaker B: She lacks leadership qualities, actually.
[00:56:47] Speaker A: She is great at bringing people together, which is a great leadership quality.
[00:56:51] Speaker B: But, I mean, according to Luna, all you need is a fucking moon stick, and that's. You need leadership qualities. I got the moon stick, bitch.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: I mean, Luna would know best.
[00:57:03] Speaker B: All right, so we wrap up the episode of Game Center Crown, and Makoto is playing Sailor V video game.
[00:57:09] Speaker A: She's taking out her heartbreak on video games, which is, as everyone does at some point in their life.
[00:57:16] Speaker B: And she said something like, who needs boys?
[00:57:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:18] Speaker B: And then she dies. And then she dies. Because in truth, anger Sailor Jupiter. Makoto is obsessed with boys. And I think that's why she got killed in the Sailor B game is because her mind was on boys. And then we see Motoki is back at work, and he's talking to Sailor Moon, and he said that he heard Joe the Crane Troll was at the Game center yesterday.
[00:57:40] Speaker A: And Usagi's like, you didn't miss anything. Anyways, here's my friend.
[00:57:43] Speaker B: And so Usagi introduces. It's her new best friend as how she introduces her.
[00:57:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:51] Speaker B: And then Makona says, you're just actually like my former love who broke my heart.
[00:57:57] Speaker A: Like my senpai.
[00:57:59] Speaker B: Just like my former love.
[00:58:00] Speaker A: Hi.
[00:58:01] Speaker B: And he actually says, just yesterday, he said crane Jo reminded you of him.
[00:58:06] Speaker A: I meant his voice.
[00:58:08] Speaker B: His voice. Just his voice.
[00:58:10] Speaker A: His voice is what reminds me of my senpai.
[00:58:15] Speaker B: Basically, everything that Motoka looks at reminds her of this guy that broke her heart.
[00:58:19] Speaker A: I mean, I'm not saying it's one of my other favorite tropes from the show, but I Do love it.
[00:58:27] Speaker B: The show officially ends with Luna going, brother.
[00:58:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
Luna is just so done.
[00:58:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
Luna's excited that she found another Sailor Guardian, and then she realizes that this one's just as broken as the rest of them.
[00:58:42] Speaker A: Damn it.
[00:58:44] Speaker B: So. Yeah. So Mars and Bertrand weren't at the fight?
[00:58:48] Speaker A: No.
[00:58:48] Speaker B: There was no tuxedo mask?
[00:58:50] Speaker A: No.
[00:58:51] Speaker B: And so the other thing I wanted to address is this. Yes, exactly. So Nephrite died.
[00:58:59] Speaker A: Yeah, he straight up.
[00:59:01] Speaker B: He died saving Naru.
[00:59:02] Speaker A: He died the death of many deaths.
[00:59:05] Speaker B: In the anime, he died saving Naru. However, in the manga, Nephrite dies at the hands of Sailor Jupiter. Sailor Jupiter eliminates Nephrite in the manga, and her introduction to the group is much different than this one.
[00:59:21] Speaker A: Yes.
Yeah, the manga. This entire arc is so truncated in the manga.
It goes, first story of the manga, Sailor Moon, Then, like, one story where she's by herself, then Sailor Mercury, then Sailor Mars, then Sailor Jupiter. Like, every single one is the next.
[00:59:44] Speaker B: There's one. There's one. There's a tuxedo mask.
One before Sailor Jupiter.
[00:59:50] Speaker A: Yeah. What? Why would. We need to learn more about bae? We need to learn everything about him. He's perfect.
[00:59:56] Speaker B: Because he's the one who tells her to believe in herself.
[00:59:59] Speaker A: Yes. She couldn't do it if he wasn't there.
[01:00:01] Speaker B: All right.
Do you have anything else to say about this episode?
[01:00:05] Speaker A: I have to say that I really love it. I'm glad we've gotten Sabler, Jupiter Gamson is.
This little arc that we're going to have with Zoysite is so good. And I really love. Like, none of it happens in the manga. None of it. But I really love it because it's just like, it's gonna get so goofy.
[01:00:25] Speaker B: Can I tell you what I like?
I like Supreme Thunder. Supreme Thunder. Now they've got a fucking attack worth of shit.
[01:00:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:32] Speaker B: You know what I mean?
[01:00:34] Speaker A: Firesoul did stuff.
[01:00:36] Speaker B: Fire Soul did stuff. But I mean, what are you. What would you be more. I'm much more afraid of getting hit by lightning than I am of fire. I'll tell you that right now.
And just as an attack, lightning and thunder sound much more powerful than fire.
[01:00:50] Speaker A: Yeah. But also, they say that burning alive is one of the most painful ways to die. And lots of people survive being struck by lightning.
[01:00:57] Speaker B: Lightning strikes, correct. Yeah.
[01:00:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:59] Speaker B: Well, here's the thing. Technically, they were in the electromagnetic field of the lightning strike. If you actually got. If you were in the direct circuit of the lightning bolt, you would die for sure.
[01:01:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:13] Speaker B: Just that you're Nearby, you know, it caught in the electromagnetic field. So when people say that they got struck by lightning and they survived, it's like. Well, no, you actually did. You didn't get struck by lightning. You were close enough to it that it.
[01:01:27] Speaker A: Okay, it's like a fishing story. You're gonna exaggerate it a little. Come on.
So do we want. Do you want. No, first, we're going to talk about social media.
[01:01:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:01:40] Speaker A: So, of course, as always, you can get. You guys can find us on
[email protected] across the Mooniverse. Or is it Mooneycast? Is it Mooneycast? Facebook.com Mooneycast hold on, I'm going to check it real quick.
[01:01:51] Speaker B: Across the universe, I think. I can't remember. I couldn't tell you.
I didn't have to look it up. I just hit the link.
[01:01:56] Speaker A: Mooneycast. Yeah, you can find us

[01:02:26] Speaker B: My money is actually on Elon Musk selling X before you ever do that. And that.
We can go back to Twitter. Yeah. All right.
[01:02:34] Speaker A: So who knows what'll happen in the.
[01:02:36] Speaker B: Next installment of across the Universe. We're going to talk about season one, episode 26, restore Naru's smile, Usagi's Friendship.
[01:02:46] Speaker A: I'm excited.
[01:02:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Because it's important, I believe, to follow up on that storyline, because Naru lost the man she loved.
[01:02:54] Speaker A: Naru went through a lot. She. She had.
[01:02:57] Speaker B: He died. He died saving her. I mean, that is a lot to process. Imagine the survivor's guilt that Naru is dealing with. She'll never restore Naru's smile. I think. I think Naru is almost my favorite character in this show.
[01:03:09] Speaker A: I love Naru. She's so great.
[01:03:11] Speaker B: I like how quickly she went bad, too, for her boyfriend in the stealing jewelry.
[01:03:18] Speaker A: In the original dub, she was named Molly, and. And she had a Brooklyn accent. But yep, because Naru, Osaka, it's like a. Osaka is obviously a region in Japan, and it's the common trope in anime is that people from Osaka are kind of like hicks. So a lot of the time they'll get country accents.
[01:03:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:03:40] Speaker A: So for some reason, they decided to give Naru a Brooklyn accent and call her Molly in the original dub. I don't know why, but they knew she needed an accent and she was just like, Serena. I can't do a Brooklyn accent. But it was bad.
[01:03:54] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I don't. I don't think of Brooklyn as being hicks. People in Brooklyn are street smart.
[01:04:00] Speaker A: There are a lot of.
[01:04:01] Speaker B: Obviously a southern accent, a nice Tennessee southern draw would have done the job.
[01:04:07] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. But no Brooklyn bell.
All right. Whoa.
[01:04:13] Speaker B: Interesting choices. Yeah. So we're getting following up on restoring Naru to a good state of mind after losing the man that she loved in a rather, like, violent, fat.
[01:04:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:04:27] Speaker B: And the thing with this is that they never had a chance to really explore their love.
[01:04:31] Speaker A: No.
[01:04:31] Speaker B: You know what I mean? They never got to get the chocolate parfait.
