[00:00:01] Speaker A: We are the super nerdy sailor guardians who fight for love and justice. And this is across the Moonaverse. Holy moly. Back at it again. [00:00:35] Speaker B: Here we are. Hello, everybody. [00:00:38] Speaker A: Another day, another episode, another couple hours spent talking to my best friend. [00:00:50] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. Happy moon day, everyone. [00:00:53] Speaker A: Happy moon day. Welcome to across the Mooniverse. [00:00:57] Speaker B: Yes. [00:00:58] Speaker A: I'm Maddie. [00:00:59] Speaker B: I'm Mike. [00:01:02] Speaker A: And here we talk about Sailor Moon. [00:01:06] Speaker B: We're going to talk about Sailor Moon. We're going to talk about season one, episode 18, Shingo's love the grieving Doll. [00:01:14] Speaker A: Which I'm very excited about, because this is, for all intents and purposes, new territory for us, because this is the first episode that we did not record way back in the day. This is, like, entirely new. So it's very exciting. [00:01:32] Speaker B: We had. We had. We had done. We had. We had recorded 14, 1516 and 17. But they never got edited, so they're just. They're in the archives. We were. So this is. This is. This is finally. Finally new territory. And we do have some interesting developments in this. In this episode. [00:01:50] Speaker A: Indeed, yes. [00:01:52] Speaker B: So I was just going to say. So I was noticing it. Okay. The very beginning, the very opening. Right. Said the sailor. The sailor moon opening. It starts out. It starts out with a skyline, and it's kind of black clouds swirling. You know what I'm talking about? The very beginning. [00:02:10] Speaker A: The very beginning of the, like, intro. [00:02:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. So it's got black clouds swirling and it's a skyline, and there's a little. There's a building, and on top of that building, it's got the letters Ch and the number ten. And I wondered if. If Sailor Moon had been broadcast originally on Channel Ten. That's the reason that it says, see, it looks like channel ten. Ch, ten. [00:02:41] Speaker A: You know, it is entirely possible. Yeah. [00:02:45] Speaker B: Otherwise, why would they have channel ten there? [00:02:51] Speaker A: For shits and giggles? [00:02:52] Speaker B: It could be. It could be some. Some sort of inside. Inside joke with the animators. I don't know. But anyway, this is something I noticed this time with the opening along with the. [00:03:05] Speaker A: Oh, I see it now. Sorry, I just pulled it up. Okay. Yeah, now I know what you're talking about. [00:03:10] Speaker B: Ten. [00:03:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. [00:03:15] Speaker B: I wonder if it was broadcast on. [00:03:16] Speaker A: Channel ten, it could also. It looks like a really stylized. Really stylized letters as well. Oh, gosh, Mike, I'm so out of practice with my Khan. Oh, hold on. I have an app for this. I need to know what it says. Now, you always discover new things about this show that I love. I love it. I love it. So much. I want to know more about my favorite show that you'd think I'd know everything about. [00:03:44] Speaker B: That's just how my mind works. So while you're looking that up. So let's talk about. So in the. In the bumper teaser, where. Where by bumper teaser, I mean before the episode starts, it plays. It plays visuals from. Usually. It's usually the fight that it shows. And in this case, it is the fight. You see a doll flying at Sailor Moon, and she says something about that. The doll has the heart of the maker in it. And she also says something. She says that even girls day dolls are angry. And so I had to know what that was because there is no. There is no context for that, for that statement throughout this episode that we never find out what girls day is. So I went ahead and looked it up. Did you already know what it was? [00:04:43] Speaker A: I kind of knew what it was. Like I knew of it, but I didn't quite know the name. But then when I was also looking it up, because, you know, I gotta prepare in case you have questions. But no, no. Now you gotta do your own research. Whatever. [00:05:00] Speaker B: Well, you go ahead. [00:05:01] Speaker A: What do I take notes? [00:05:05] Speaker B: Girls day is girls day, or dolls day is March 3. And you say you give the japanese name for it. Hina Matsuri. Did I say it correctly? It's one of five holidays, right? One. The first one is January 1. The first one is the first day of the first month, and then the next one is the third day of the third month, which is this 1, March 3, and then. And then the next one would be May 5, the fifth day of the fifth month, and then July 7 and so forth. But in this case, this is dolls day. And. And they said what I. What I found out from Wikipedia was that they have on. There's a little display that they have on red carpet, and it has. You have dressed up, you have the emperor, the empress, the attendants, and the musicians in traditional court dress. And it said that it's also called the peach festival, but that dates. That predates when they changed to the greco roman calendar. Yes, because the peaches. Peach trees were in bloom on the third. Around the third day of the third month. But that was only true when they were using the previous calendar. Yeah, but it's still called the peach festival, and peaches are still play prominently in the. In the celebration. [00:06:40] Speaker A: I mean, that's what I do that with holidays. I have. Yeah. So Hinamatsuri is, or girls day is a celebration of the health and happiness of female children and of femininity in general. The Hina dolls, which is what you were referring to with the different dolls that they place on a different tiered. It's like a table that has multiple shelves, and you put them in tiers and you have to set them up a certain way to sort of like, Honor. I didn't get the specifics on why you have to set them up that way, but I know it's a big deal. But the Hina doll sets for a five tier set, it can go anywhere from $1500 to $2,500 per set. [00:07:33] Speaker B: Wow. [00:07:34] Speaker A: But typically, they're passed down through the generations, and a lot of the time, grandparents will gift, gift it to baby girls when they're born. [00:07:47] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [00:07:48] Speaker A: Yeah. And then it is, they start to put this display up in about late augment, late August, late February, and, pardon me, mid February, they start setting this up, and then they take it down the moment that Hinamatsuri is over. Specifically because, well, a lot of people say it's to avoid the humidity of the rainy season in March so it doesn't damage the dolls. But older superstitions say that the daughters of the families that keep these altars up will have trouble marrying if it's left up past the holiday. [00:08:32] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Interesting. [00:08:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:35] Speaker B: So it goes well. [00:08:38] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna link the website in the show notes for this episode. I'm gonna link the website that I found my information on. [00:08:48] Speaker B: Okay. [00:08:49] Speaker A: It's, yeah, it's, I was, I was really, I really enjoyed all of it. And it's so cool because, like, a lot of japanese horror games that I absolutely adore will have these puzzles where you'll, the, the point of the puzzle is to reorganize. It's like a slide puzzle, but with the dolls. And so you have to organize the dolls so that they're all in the right order and all that stuff. [00:09:16] Speaker B: Hierarchy. [00:09:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:19] Speaker B: Okay. [00:09:20] Speaker A: So it's really cool. I was like, oh, I have more context to those puzzles now. Yay. [00:09:25] Speaker B: It's really hard to learn when you're learning stuff. Me, you, the intern. We're all learning. [00:09:33] Speaker A: Gotta love that intern. [00:09:36] Speaker B: So, so, yeah, that's so she does, she does her little, there's a little bumper. Bumper teaser of her, and we see, we see. They look like, I mean, the best way to describe the dolls, they look like french porcelain dolls to me. It's kind of what they look like. Yeah, in the, in the, in the teaser, um, victorian era. Like, victorian era dolls are all dressed up. Yeah. [00:10:02] Speaker A: Very, very fluffy. [00:10:04] Speaker B: Um, very, very ornate. [00:10:06] Speaker A: Yes. [00:10:07] Speaker B: Very poopy. All right, so finally, the episode opens properly with the Dark Kingdom. Finally. [00:10:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Nep, right. [00:10:19] Speaker A: Is in barrels. Back, baby. [00:10:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Beryl's back. And Beryl asks Nephrite if he's made any progress eliminating the sailor Guardians. And Nephrite says, everything's under control, I assure you, which is a total lie. I mean, definitely, he's got zero energy, and he, and he's made no progress eliminating the Sailor Guardians whatsoever, which I'd. [00:10:47] Speaker A: Like to know when eliminating the Sailor Guardians became part of his mission, because if you remember, when he showed up, she was just like, get me energy. And now he's got to eliminate them too. Is that always part of the deal? [00:11:00] Speaker B: No, originally. Originally, it was that we talked about this. Yeah, originally. No, that was, that was what Jadeite got sent to eternal sleep because he didn't eliminate the sailor Guardians he was tasked with. [00:11:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:14] Speaker B: Eliminating the sailor because she admitted that Jayda had actually gathered energy for the Dark Kingdom. [00:11:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:21] Speaker B: And so, yeah, I don't know when his, when his job description got expanded, because we had, we had speculated that perhaps Zoicite was gonna, was supposed to eliminate the sailor guardians, and, or maybe Zoey said, also, there's no mention of the silver crystal. [00:11:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:43] Speaker B: You know what I mean? [00:11:45] Speaker A: But we do know that Zoicide is looking for that. [00:11:48] Speaker B: We do know. Yeah. Zoeyside is looking for the silver crystal, but, but. So now, jazz, how it's going with eliminating the sailor Guardians? He lied to her. And then all of a sudden, in a swirl of white orbs, Zoey sight appears with his little kiki. [00:12:02] Speaker A: Are those orbs or those flower petals? There was. I always thought, I'm pretty sure they're flower petals. Yeah. [00:12:08] Speaker B: All right. All right. Really? You seem to be having quite a struggle with them. I'd be happy to help. All of a sudden, he's. All of a sudden, he is Mister helpful. And. And queen, Queen beryl Green. Beryl is. He says, he says, after all, the two of us can carry out a plan better than one. Don't you agree? Don't. Don't you agree, my queen? So he throws it to Beryl, and Beryl's like, yeah, that's a good idea, nephrite, you will work with zoysite. [00:12:37] Speaker A: And nephrite's like he said, the hell I will never. [00:12:44] Speaker B: And then, Joyce, it's like, oh, my. You're actually gonna define Queen Beryl like that and that, right? I'm not doing this for Queen Beryl. I'm doing it for myself now. Excuse me. And he leaves. So, yeah, he leaves. And then. And then this is the big moment. Barrel. Damn you, nebrighthood. Barrel. [00:13:07] Speaker A: Yeah, she's pissed. [00:13:09] Speaker B: We've never seen barrel swear before. No, she's not happy. [00:13:13] Speaker A: Usually she keeps her cool. Even when she was sentencing Jade I to eternal sleep, she was pretty chill. [00:13:19] Speaker B: Yeah, but in this case, Bill's hot. And then zoicide talking. So it's talking to himself, saying that everything is going. Going as planned. Barrel will distance herself. [00:13:33] Speaker A: So, yeah. [00:13:36] Speaker B: We'Ll find out. But, I mean. I mean, obviously. Obviously we knew from the get go that Zoe said he was trying to undermine nephrite. That's. Oh, yeah, that's clear. And so, you know, just. Just as he planned, bails. And, you know, the thing. But is. Is nephrite did it to himself. I mean, I'm. You know, she. Joy site offered. Offered to team up and basically gave him an order. Said, nephrite, you will work. She says, nephrite, you will work with joy site. And he says, never, and storms out, basically. [00:14:14] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:14:15] Speaker B: So I'm guessing that that's the source of her damn you is his insubordination. [00:14:22] Speaker A: For sure. [00:14:23] Speaker B: He's disobeying an order. [00:14:25] Speaker A: And what rank does he think he is? He's definitely. He's not at weird staff or brink. He's at fried eggs on your shoulder. Rank. [00:14:35] Speaker B: Exactly. Exactly. So that answers. That answers my ongoing question about him. Him checking in with. With barrel is that he obviously was avoiding it, and he showed up and. And lied to her. And then Zoey said, basically busted him. Said, it seems to me that you've been struggling, you know, soy side, basically, you know, called him out on his lie and then. And then tried to offer a solution. I'm not saying Zoey said it's a good guy. I don't think that at all. I'm just saying that, I mean, he. [00:15:08] Speaker A: Does work for the Dark Kingdom. [00:15:09] Speaker B: Right. I'm just saying that neph. Right. Should be smarter than this. You know what I mean? He's right through this. He probably does, too. And that's why he's right. He's pissed off. Is he? He knows what Zoe site's up to, and he doesn't want everything to do with it. [00:15:24] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:15:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:25] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. So nephrote definitely has. He has some sort of hidden agenda that he's doing. And I'm curious. [00:15:32] Speaker B: It just makes a lot more to. [00:15:34] Speaker A: Nephrite than meets the eye. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Yeah, there is. But it makes me wonder, you know, is his. Is his clock ticking, you know, is time. Is time running out for nep right now? I mean, we already. We already had Jadeite come and go. Is nephrote going to be, you know, nephrite could be eternal sleep anytime soon? I mean, he's. As far as I can see, nephrite has. Has deserved eternal sleep more than Jade. I never did. Jade just failed. Jade was he. But he checked in with her on the reg. You know, he checked in with her before every episode. He had. He had pretty decent plans. He didn't have all the information that. Nephron has more information. Nephron has more information. He's had more time. He's watched what hasn't worked. You know, he got to watch. You got to watch jadeite fail, so he got to gather more information and he's, you know, he has failed to check in, and now he's disobeyed a direct order. And, you know, it seems to me that his. His time in this position is probably going to be. Probably going to be running out if he doesn't, you know, if he doesn't eliminate the sailor Guardians, which, of course, I don't think that's going to happen. I mean, otherwise the show would end. [00:16:58] Speaker A: That's true. That's it. Make it a very short show, for sure. [00:17:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:04] Speaker A: But you know what happens. You know, what happens next in the show that is equally as pleasing as seeing Beryl at the beginning of the episode. [00:17:17] Speaker B: Yes. I know what you're gonna say. [00:17:20] Speaker A: Juice and toast. [00:17:21] Speaker B: Juice and toast. [00:17:23] Speaker A: Juice and toast. [00:17:25] Speaker B: This episode's back to form. This episode opens with the dark kingdom, and then it goes to juice and toast, the family breakfast and palate cleanser. In this family breakfast, Usagi is up early. Her dad. Her dad's like, oh, you're up early. And then Shingo, her little brother, is like, normal people do this every day. I love that. [00:17:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Shingo is the way that naoko writes. Shingo is just so true to form with younger siblings. [00:17:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:17:59] Speaker A: I can say this. Being a younger sibling and being an older sibling, I could say, yeah, I. [00:18:05] Speaker B: Would say my brother and sister were younger than me, but, I mean, they do a good job. Catch. [00:18:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:11] Speaker B: Portraying the dynamics. They definitely do. Yeah, it's good. And then the dad says, oh, shingo. I heard Miko won a prize in the french doll making contest, at which point Usagi teases her little brother about having a girlfriend. But the way she does it is she starts interviewing him like she's a tv reporter. Yeah, that was funny. But. But she's definitely teasing him for having a girlfriend. [00:18:40] Speaker A: Oh, definitely. And I don't know that they're actually, like, together, Chingo and Mika. Or if they're just like, it's like a kid crush, because, you know, he's in. She's in middle school, so he's in, like, elementary, right? So. [00:18:56] Speaker B: Well, it even says that. Even says that at one point, it says elementary school when they cut. When we cut to their school. Yeah, and so, yeah, so. But nevertheless, Usagi's calling, calling me Mika, her girlfriend. [00:19:11] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah. [00:19:12] Speaker B: And so that's all that matters. And then, single, gets a little flustered, and then starts teasing her about being late. And, yes. He's like, oh, Usagi. I don't know what he says exactly, but it's like, oh, Usagi, you're gonna be late again, just as usual. And Usagi's like, no, I got up. I got up early today, specifically so I wouldn't be late. And then she checks her watch, and she's like, oh, my God, that's time. [00:19:37] Speaker A: So, oh, shit, I'm late. [00:19:39] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, exactly. [00:19:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:42] Speaker B: So we just, we cut to. We just. They cut to the school, her school, the middle school, and we just hear the teacher say, um, go stand in the hall. [00:19:53] Speaker A: Yep. [00:19:55] Speaker B: And then, and then it's another quick cut. So she's walking down the street with Naru. And Naru says, you never tire of being tardy. It's a funny way of saying it. [00:20:10] Speaker A: Naru is just one of the best, because she's just so, like, she is so kind to Usagi, but then she, like, calls it as she sees it, but in the nicest way possible. [00:20:23] Speaker B: Right? This is a nice way of saying it. You never tire of being dirty. It's such a good way of putting. Yeah. And so Usagi response was like, shut up, or something to that. Yeah, I don't know what she says exactly, but it's. She uses kind of a funny voice to just like, leave it alone. Let it be. Yeah, and, and then, and then they're approached by two little girls, and they ask if she's Shingo's big sister. The little girls do. And. And she's. And she's like, yes. And the little girls are like, maybe, can you tell us why Shingo is being so mean? And. And she's kind of like, huh? And then all of a sudden, I don't know if you noticed this, but then my animation style changes. And, yes, as we cut to, what. What has happened? What happened earlier this morning at the elementary school, which is it. And so the way Sailor Moon is animated, I would say, is standard. It's standard anime style, you know, with the big eyes and the. And it's. It's standard anime style. This animation looked to me more like manga with watercolor added to it. The colors were really desaturated, and it almost. It looks like black and white. There's more sketch lines, like. Like. Like pencil lines in. In the. In the drawings, and it's very storybook. Yeah, it's. It's in. It's. It's. I don't know if this is the first time they've done that. It probably isn't, but it was definitely noticeable in this, because it's not really. It is kind of a flashback, but it's a flat. It's a. It's a story being told, because flashbacks, that means that. That a flashback happens for the participant. It's. It's a memory. You know what I mean? This isn't a memory. This is a story being told. So that. Yeah, and so, yeah, storybook is a good way to put it. It's. And so it's. And they tell the tale of what has happened to make them say that Shingo is being mean. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:39] Speaker B: You want to talk about that? You want to talk about what you're playing? [00:22:42] Speaker A: Yeah. So Mika being Shingo's long term friend, which, I don't know, it's been a while since we recorded this episode, but she actually appeared once before in the, uh, Chanella episode with the. The perfumed furbies. [00:23:00] Speaker B: Oh, wow. [00:23:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Um, so Mika comes up to Shingo, and she says, hey, I have something for you. Um, I want you to have the doll that won the french doll making contest because you're such a good friend and you're always there when I need you. And he is just like, he goes to take the doll, and he is definitely feeling some kind of way, positively like, oh, my gosh, this means so much. And then, you know, the other school kids be school kids, and they start teasing Shingo, and they're like, oh, so nice to get from your girlfriend. Oh, shingo. Like love birds. [00:23:42] Speaker B: When's the wedding gonna be? [00:23:45] Speaker A: Yeah. And Shingo, being an elementary school Boyden, uh, gets really embarrassed, and his reaction is to say, I don't want this, and just try and shove the doll back over to Micah. Unfortunately, they both lose grip on it, and it being a porcelain doll, it falls and shatters. [00:24:06] Speaker B: Correct. [00:24:06] Speaker A: And Micah is devastated. [00:24:11] Speaker B: Mika does some crying in this episode, for sure. [00:24:13] Speaker A: Yes, she's. [00:24:14] Speaker B: Yeah, she starts, she starts crying big tears and, and then it goes back to the normal animation style. So that's. Yeah, you basically summed up the little, little story that's told of what happens with the doll. And a couple things I was gonna add is that Shingo? It's. It starts with Shingo congratulating her on the wingest. So it begins with him. He's not mean at all. He's being really nice. And then when she hands him the doll, he says to himself, is it okay for me to have this? Because he knows how important, how important it is. You know what I mean? And then, of course, then, of course, once he's getting teased and, you know, look at the lovebirds and when's the wedding going to be? He does what so many guys would do in that and acts like he's not whipped, you know, and, and, you know, in doing so, the drug, the dog gets dropped and is shattered. And so it cuts back to normal animation. And the little girls ask you, Sagi, to please tell Shingo to apologize to Mika, because they say, yeah, he didn't even apologize when the doll broke, so he definitely owes her an apology. And, and Sailor Moon takes that opportunity to promote herself, saying that his smart and pretty sister, big sister, is gonna set things straight. I like that. She had to. [00:25:44] Speaker A: Of course. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah. She describes herself. [00:25:49] Speaker A: You know, she's authentic. She's gotta tell her like she sees it. [00:25:53] Speaker B: Yeah. All right. Then it cuts to Mika is carving a new doll, and she's sitting in the darkest. She's. Her bedroom is dark, and she's just got. There's one little light where she's working. And she's working on a new doll. Yeah. Her mom comes in and notices, you know, so dark in here. And she says it's easier to concentrate, but it's obviously, it's. The dark room is also to symbolize her dark mood, I think. Of course, she's pretty blue. And her mom says, the new doll looks like it's on the verge of tears, which, of course, makes sense. And mom says, let's compare it to the doll that won the contest. And Mika then lies and says, I don't have it anymore. [00:26:50] Speaker A: I let somebody borrow it. [00:26:53] Speaker B: I let someone borrow it. And then her mom says, who? And she says, just someone. So she's. She's pretty mad. She's pretty mad at Shingo that he's now. His status has now been reduced to just someone. [00:27:07] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:08] Speaker B: So she's. And then there's more tears, as I recall. [00:27:11] Speaker A: There's some more tears, because after her mom leaves, she opens the. [00:27:16] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:27:17] Speaker A: And she opens the top drawer of her desk where she's sitting, and the doll, broken doll, is in there all in pieces, and she cries some more, and I just want to hug her. [00:27:27] Speaker B: I know it's very sad because now, now she's. Now she's lying to her mom about what happened, you know? [00:27:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:35] Speaker B: And, you know, the sadness deepens. We cut to nephrite's mansion. [00:27:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:44] Speaker B: The stars are all knowing. The stars are all seeing. [00:27:47] Speaker A: And, hey, here's a familiar. Familiar. I know, star. [00:27:53] Speaker B: I know. So remember when I. When I gave my little spiel about. About Lyra and Orpheus and all that? [00:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:00] Speaker B: Here. Here it is again. And he says, orpheus and Lyra has begun to play a plaintive melody on his harp. He doesn't even say Lyra. And he's selected my next target, Mika Kayama. And. Yeah, so it's. It's a. So. So it's a standard, standard issue, him consulting the stars. It's not. It's not. The stars pointed to a magazine on the floor. This time he gets. He gets zapped right in the forehead after he says he's selected my next target. [00:28:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:38] Speaker B: And. Yeah, so it's really. It's a real quick one, but at least it's in the correct order this time. You know what I mean? [00:28:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:48] Speaker B: Next, next it cuts to Shingo trying to write an apology letter. [00:28:52] Speaker A: Yeah, he's already on the track to apologizing, which, you know, get on him. Shingo's a good kid. [00:28:59] Speaker B: Yeah. He's not. He gets frustrated and he. He tears up his attempt at apologizing, saying that it's. [00:29:08] Speaker A: Yeah, he's just like, I don't know what to say. This is weird. I'm not used to being like this. This is my best friend. [00:29:15] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And Usagi walks in and slams her fist down on the top of his head. [00:29:24] Speaker A: Yes, she does. [00:29:25] Speaker B: What was that for? He's like, hey, what was that for? And she says, what do you think it's for? It's for Mika. And then she basically, you know, she's like, hey, you need to go apologize to Mika. And I think it's. I think it's. I think it's pretty lame that she doesn't have anything better to motivate him than threatening to go and tell mom and dad. [00:29:58] Speaker A: I'll tattle on you. I mean, if you remember when. I don't know when. That was pretty strong leverage as a kid with two siblings that were one and two years older than me, who. And I have the advantage of being youngest in that little set. So I had the advantage of gaining more sympathy from the parents because the older siblings picked on me. Yeah. [00:30:29] Speaker B: True story. True. I was a little disappointed in her. I thought she. I said she'd have some. Some better skills, but I have to say, that is a pretty effective one, and it certainly works. So that, you know, so I guess that's the proof is in the pudding, because he immediately snapped, because he was. He was reluctant to go apologize until the threat to go and tell mom and dad came out. [00:30:53] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:30:53] Speaker B: And then she's not. She's. She's. And she wasn't. She was like, now you're going to go do it. Now you're going to apologize now. And he's, like, kind of, like, awestrucks. And then. And then it cuts to him walking down, looks like it kind of an alleyway, and he's practicing his apology as he. As he walks up to Mika's house. And then we hear a car squeal out, and a red sports car comes, pulls right up to the front of the house. [00:31:23] Speaker A: And who could that be in their red sports car that drives on the wrong side of the road? [00:31:30] Speaker B: Shingo says, wow, awesome car. Which, of course, every little boy is going to have that. That response. And then. But then I like that. Shingo is like, oh, it looks like they have company. I'll have to come back later. So he uses that to not have to go. Go make the apology. I like that. [00:31:50] Speaker A: Yeah, I just. I like that as well. [00:31:55] Speaker B: And. And then, so it's nephrite is. Rings the doorbell, and he identifies himself as. I can't say which is. That's the alter ego he used before, right, as the tennis coach. That's his alias. And. And so he's sitting there. He's sitting in the. In the. In their living room, talking to the mother. Talking to the mom. And something like some french designer's name. I thought only Pierre so and so could make dolls in the. In the authentic french tradition or whatever. And she's like, oh, you know how to flatter a girl. And he says, your daughter is very talented, too. And he asked to see the winning doll. Obviously, his plan was to enchant the winning doll, but they had to. Oh, that doll. And then it just kind of lets it trail off and says, why don't you bring out the new doll that you're working on? And so Mika brings out the new doll, and then what happens? [00:33:09] Speaker A: Nephrite turns the doll evil. [00:33:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:13] Speaker A: And once again, wow, this is amazing. [00:33:17] Speaker B: This is yet a different moment. When he enchants the doll. Different things happen. Remember, sometimes the crest glows red. Sometimes it glows aquamarine. In this case, he presses on the doll's forehead, and it just glows white. And you can see that he's not speaking, but he's thinking an incantation, and he says, monster Jumo, build Mika Kayama's energy to its peak and then take it all away. So he doesn't. He doesn't speak it, but he thinks the, you know, the incantation. And I looked up what jumo means, and it was. It was pretty. Not a lot of information. It just said that. In Japanese, jumo means non participant or non permanent. [00:34:04] Speaker A: Interesting. [00:34:05] Speaker B: Participant. Non permanent. Temporary. So that's a weird name for the monster. It didn't. It didn't. Yeah, it doesn't have any. It doesn't have any link that I could find the doll making. Did you. Did you look it up? [00:34:20] Speaker A: I didn't, but I'm getting the intern on that now just to see if we. If we can find anything. [00:34:26] Speaker B: And then, um. So then he's. And he's gushing over this, over the new doll, saying that it's. That it's sadness is sublime and that it's lovely. And he orders ten copies of the doll, and Mika's like, that's a lot. And he's like, I know I can sell ten copies. So he's obviously posing as a businessman who's gonna. Wants to buy these dolls to resell. [00:34:51] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:52] Speaker B: And that's how. That's how he got made his way into their home and was then able to. He would cat the doll. And then, because then it cuts to Mika is making. Making dolls in a manic state. Her eyes, her face changes when she picks up the doll after it's been enchanted, and she gets the same kind of crazy look as the woman did when she was making the wedding dress. She gets the same missy. [00:35:23] Speaker A: Good. [00:35:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:24] Speaker A: Higure. [00:35:25] Speaker B: Higure. Yeah. [00:35:26] Speaker A: Yes. [00:35:28] Speaker B: And so. So Mika is working her mom. Her mom comes into the bedroom, and she's like, oh, wow, you're. You really made a lot of progress on that. And. Yeah, but, you know, it's. And it's time for bed, and. And Mika's like, don't bother me. And, yeah, and then. So the mom, obviously, we find out later the moment back down and just gave up on her. So that. [00:35:54] Speaker A: Yeah, and she shoves her mom up. She shoves her mom over. [00:35:58] Speaker B: Yeah. She does, like, don't bother me, straight. [00:36:01] Speaker A: Up pushes her to the ground. And the doll goes from sad face to evil face. [00:36:05] Speaker B: That's right. Yes. And then, then it's the commercial break. [00:36:10] Speaker A: Mm hmm. [00:36:13] Speaker B: We come back from commercial with, uh, she goes, it's, we're outside of the, um, of their, their residence, and she goes talking to the mother. I don't think the mother's name is ever mentioned. [00:36:25] Speaker A: Um, I don't believe so either. At least not that I caught. Um, but, yeah, I think it's, I think it's, it's really telling that Chingo's mom, or, pardon me, Mika's mom, confides in Shingo since he's like her bff for forever. She's like, shingo, I need to talk to you about your best friend. I'm so worried. [00:36:50] Speaker B: Yeah. That she's been up all night making calls. Yeah, she didn't even go. She didn't even go to sleep. And Shingo asked if he can go see her. And they knock on Mika's bedroom door. And Mika's like, go away. And Shinko says, I have something I really need to, I really need to tell you or show you. I can't remember what he says. And she just says, go away. And it's left as that. And then it cuts to Shingo is back at home, and he's really down, he's really depressed. And he thinks to himself, did I hurt her so bad that she's never gonna forgive me? And then, and then all of a sudden, then nice Isagi comes in with, with a cold beverage and serves it to her brother. Yeah, yeah. And he's like, what's all about being. [00:37:52] Speaker A: The best big sis? I loved it. She's just like, I sense, I sense you. [00:37:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I love that about, I love that about her. Is she says I'm, that she could never let him be depressed without her trying to cheer him up. [00:38:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:38:11] Speaker B: You know, and, and I thought that was really sweet. [00:38:14] Speaker A: And then she listens to his whole story. Just like, without any teasing or anything, just total, like, tell me. Tell me about what's going on, little BRO. I want to help you. [00:38:25] Speaker B: Yeah. She serves him. She served him the drink. And then he says that, you know, he tells her his woese, and she says, well, didn't you apologize? And then he explains what happened when he tried to go Apologize and then Transpired. And then we know time is that we know that he took the time. They don't actually show him telling the story of what happened. They show that time has transpired by the Drake is now empty. And then Usagi has the idea that bringing her a present, you know, then maybe she'll talk to him. [00:39:03] Speaker A: All girls like presents. [00:39:04] Speaker B: Girls are big softies for presents. And then what's next? What do you have? What's next? [00:39:14] Speaker A: Next. Usagi is then talking to Luna in her room, and she points out to Luna that Mika is acting very strangely. And Luna says, you're being very perceptive today. [00:39:29] Speaker B: Right. [00:39:29] Speaker A: And she says, oh, when it comes to my dear little brother, I have to do my best. [00:39:34] Speaker B: Yep. [00:39:35] Speaker A: Like, she's on alert, which, you know, I get that. I get that. Being an older sibling as well, I. [00:39:41] Speaker B: Just have a note here that Usagi is loyal and puts energies into her relationships. [00:39:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:39:48] Speaker B: Which is. She's. She is. She is very loyal and very protective of the people who are close to her. [00:39:54] Speaker A: Oh, for sure. [00:39:55] Speaker B: And she is being perceptive. I think. I think that she noticed. She notices Mika's behavior more so because he. Because Mika is important to Shingo. So, yeah, Usagi is more attuned to that because a lot of times Usagi does miss. Does miss when something fishy is happening. But in this, for sure, in this case, she's on, definitely on top of it. [00:40:24] Speaker A: And she's like, normally I'd be distracted by this, but this is my little brother, and now I'm on alert. [00:40:31] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. But she says that, you know, she says, not. Not only. Not only is it that not only am I being perceptive because it's my little brother, but a doll's curse sounds so interesting. She. So she admits that she has. There's a little bit more to it, and Luna doesn't like that idea at all. Luna shakes and shivers at the thought of a doll's curse and then said, well, since this could be the work of the Dark Kingdom, we should keep an eye on them. And then Sailor Moon. And then Usagi says, well, if that's the case, then Ami and Ray should handle it. [00:41:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Let them do it. [00:41:10] Speaker B: I'm busy, and I don't think she's serious. I think in the past she has been serious when she's. [00:41:17] Speaker A: For sure. [00:41:17] Speaker B: When she said that she's scared to do something, she doesn't. I think in this case, she's joking. I don't. [00:41:22] Speaker A: I don't. [00:41:23] Speaker B: I don't think that she's. I don't think she's being as serious about not wanting to do something about. [00:41:28] Speaker A: It because, yeah, I think she's taking it as an opportunity to kind of pull Luna's leg. Just be like, yeah, it's fine, Luna. Don't worry. Yeah. [00:41:39] Speaker B: So then it cuts to. It's Usagi, Luna, and Amitan. They're trying to get a look into Mika's bedroom. Luna has climbed up a tree, and she says that the blinds are drawn and she can't see anything in there. And Usagi says, now, at this point, a couple days have gone by because Usagi says that she hasn't been to school for a few days. [00:42:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:42:06] Speaker B: And then Ami notices a flyer for a Daleks exposition. She says the only clue left is the Daleks position. [00:42:16] Speaker A: Yeah. And we. And Mika's mom, which I learned is said at some point, but we both missed it, I guess her name is Yoshiko. [00:42:26] Speaker B: Oh, wow. Okay. [00:42:28] Speaker A: Which, in case you're wondering, means beautiful child. [00:42:33] Speaker B: Oh, mom. How nice. [00:42:38] Speaker A: There you go. That's my. [00:42:40] Speaker B: And then we missed mentioning this. When. When nephrite orders ten of the dolls, the mother. The mother mentions the doll exposition, saying, there's a position this weekend. I hope he'll come. Mika will be there as well. [00:43:00] Speaker A: And Nephron's like, of course I'll be there. [00:43:03] Speaker B: Of course I'll be there. Exactly. And then, then we have. We have. There's a. They cut to. It's. It's a poster of. That's promoting the new Sailor V game, which at this point is no longer new, but the poster is. Is up from when. From when it was new. And Shingo's remembering a conversation with. With Mika where they're talking about sailor. Sailor van, but that Mika says that she thinks that Sailor Moon is so much cooler, and Shingo agrees with her. And so he's. Of course, I mean, he's remembering that she likes Sailor Moon, and that gives him the idea for what he's gonna get her for a present. He gets the idea that he's gonna sculpt her a sailor moon doll, which I love. Yeah. [00:43:55] Speaker A: It's an amazing idea. [00:43:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:43:57] Speaker A: Way to go, Shingo. [00:43:59] Speaker B: Exactly. [00:44:00] Speaker A: And. And Usagi, while he's. It cuts to him making his doll. And, uh, it's. Well, he's in elementary school for. For a elementary school kid. Pretty doggone good, I would say. [00:44:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:44:16] Speaker A: You know, not a professional sculptor. [00:44:20] Speaker B: And he's sculpting. It looks like he's using clay. Looks like he's using blank clay. He's sculpt. He's sculpting. He's sculpting a figurine. And I have to admit, it does look like a pig. [00:44:32] Speaker A: That's yeah, because Usagi comes in and she says, what are you doing? Oh, my gosh. Is that for Mika? Oh, she'll love that little piggy. And then Shingo's like, um, yeah, it's supposed to be Sailor Moon. And then Usagi starts laughing and says. [00:44:49] Speaker B: In a kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of pissed off though, too. [00:44:53] Speaker A: Yeah. She's like, she says it in a nice. But like, like one of those I'm gonna kill you, but I'm being nice sort of voices. She's like, I'm sure she'd be thrilled. [00:45:05] Speaker B: Yeah. And she's like, well, she is the messenger of love and justice. [00:45:08] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:45:12] Speaker B: And then, and then kind of, then it cuts the next thing. Next thing we see surprised me a little bit, which is ray. She's dressed up nice and she's walking. She's kind of walking down the lane of with Mamaru. So there looks like they're out on a date. We have this. [00:45:28] Speaker A: There was no item after. [00:45:33] Speaker B: Butterflies in the park. [00:45:35] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:45:36] Speaker B: So they're on. They're on a second date, apparently. Or maybe there's been more that we don't know about. But nevertheless, there they are. And they walk in and it says that the Juban museum. [00:45:48] Speaker A: Yep. [00:45:48] Speaker B: And we cut through inside the museum and nephrite is congratulating whatever. What was the mom's name? [00:45:58] Speaker A: Yoshiko. [00:46:00] Speaker B: Yoshiko is talking to yoshiko and says, marvelous, this exhibition is a huge success. And he asks where Mika is. And Yoshiko says she's putting the finishing touches on the last doll and. And then go ahead. We cut to Mika in kind of in the back room. [00:46:23] Speaker A: Can I ask why is her face slowly getting older? Like, why is that a side effect of being possessed by one of Nephrite's creatures? Is that your face slowly becomes, like, crazy old, like very eighties? [00:46:38] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, maybe that's. That happens with demonic possession. [00:46:44] Speaker A: Maybe. Didn't seem to happen that way in the exorcist, but, you know, that was different. [00:46:51] Speaker B: She definitely stays. She's definitely stays, like 1414. [00:46:55] Speaker A: Yeah, well, her face does look a little older if you think about it. [00:47:00] Speaker B: You know, that movie destroyed Linda Blair's back that they had her on a wire rig from. You did or did nothing. [00:47:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:12] Speaker B: You did not. [00:47:13] Speaker A: I did, yes, but continue. [00:47:15] Speaker B: Oh, you knew that. Oh, yeah, but, yeah. So they had her on a wire rig for some of that flailing around that she does. And she got a back injury from it that plagued her for the rest of her life. He also, he also frequently the director, he had a shotgun on Sethe, and he would, it had blanks, but doesn't matter. It's loud. And he would just fire it off to get, to get the actors scared to try and film a genuine terror response from them. You know, just like, the stuff that's just, like, way over the top. Like, you could never get away with that now. And, I mean, that would be considered harassment. You know, to treat an employee that way when you're an inferior superior, you can't do that to an employee. You can't do that to somebody who you're in charge of. Yeah, yeah. The stories of the back, the stories of what took place during the filming, the exorcist are pretty amazing, you know? [00:48:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:48:16] Speaker B: It's like, it's like, what? And what? They cut out what ended up on the editing room floor because it didn't pass the ratings board originally. It was going to get an x rating. Did you know that? [00:48:27] Speaker A: I believe it. Yeah, I believe it. Yeah. Because that, I mean, that movie's intense. [00:48:34] Speaker B: It's, and it's, it's also there was, yeah, I mean, I'm not, I won't say it, but just imagine where the crucifix could go and, yeah, and that, that was, and they literally filmed that. And they're like, yeah, yeah, you can't show that. [00:48:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:48:52] Speaker B: So anyway, um, how we get on the exorcist. Oh, Mika looks older. Yeah. [00:49:00] Speaker A: Yes. [00:49:00] Speaker B: Yeah. And so Mika, Mika's back there. Put, working on, working on the doll and the dolls, her little, what do you call that? Like a bonnet? Your little whatever. Her little headdress. Yeah, it's kind of like a bonnet. Yeah, yeah. Kind of starts whirling around and her hair kind of goes all crazy like medusa. And then it cuts to Ami's holding a strange looking kind of basket, and, and Luna's inside. [00:49:29] Speaker A: Can I say real quick that Ami's outfit is so cute? [00:49:36] Speaker B: Like, I agree. [00:49:36] Speaker A: I want that skirt. I want that skirt so much. [00:49:40] Speaker B: Ray's looking nice, too. [00:49:42] Speaker A: Yeah. There's a lot of cute outfits in this, this episode. [00:49:45] Speaker B: Yes, there are. True story. And so Luna peeks out and says she doesn't see anything unusual. And then they, they both, they notice Ray and Mamoru. Look. They're perusing the dolls. They're looking at the dolls, and Ray is waxing ecstatic about this doll. And she's like, oh, do you not like dolls? And he's like, well, I don't hate them. And Ray said he's not enthused. Yeah, Ray says, come on, let's keep going. And he's yay. He gives the least enthusiastic yay ever. It's fantastic. And so he's kind of. He moves to catch up with her, and he bumps into nephrite. And suddenly the background changes to blurry black and white streaks as they brush past each other in slow motion. [00:50:40] Speaker A: They have a psychic moment or something. [00:50:43] Speaker B: Something's happening. And Mamoru looks over his shoulder and with a serious voice. May I help you? And then the background snaps back to normal, and Nephrite says, sorry, I thought you were someone else. Now, what do you think that's all about, Madeline? [00:51:00] Speaker A: Oh, you want to know? Okay. I will tell you exactly what my notes say and nothing more. [00:51:05] Speaker B: Okay. [00:51:08] Speaker A: Nephrite thought, Mamoru is someone else in all caps, Maddie wants to spoil. OMG. OMG. That's all I'll say. Because there is so much. And there's so much. There's so much there. But I won't say anything I want to. [00:51:29] Speaker B: I only don't know a little bit, you know, a whole lot more than I do. Never. For some reason. [00:51:35] Speaker A: So many layers. [00:51:36] Speaker B: For some reason, there's an exchange there in. In which. In which, um, they. They. Because I don't think. I don't think that Nephrite remembers. Um, Mamoru was. Was at the park with the butterflies, but he wasn't in the fight, so. [00:51:54] Speaker A: No, he wasn't. [00:51:54] Speaker B: I don't think he remembers him from that, you know? So he must. You know, he must just think that he's someone else. That's fair enough. [00:52:05] Speaker A: I mean, you know, he has one of those faces Mamoru does. [00:52:09] Speaker B: Oh, does he now? [00:52:15] Speaker A: So much I want to say on this, but I can't say anything I want to say so much. [00:52:20] Speaker B: But obviously. I mean, obviously it's significant enough for the creators of the show to change the background and make it like they have this psychic exchange with one another, you know, more will be revealed, as we like to say. [00:52:38] Speaker A: All I will say is, it's beautiful. Foreshadowing. [00:52:42] Speaker B: All right, so I have to say that then. Then Shinko shows up with Usagi. He's wearing a hat with his name on it. I love that. Yeah, it's got his name on it, but it's in English, so it's. It's. [00:53:01] Speaker A: I love it. That occurs so often in this show and in other anime, too. It's just so beautiful, and I love it every single time. [00:53:14] Speaker B: In dragon ball, all the japanese kids who are watching this, the ones who are. Who are paying attention in their english classes, they know what it says. And then the other half of the japanese kids just think it's. It's just got some english word on it, and they have. Yeah, they have no idea what that word is in America. We would just see. I mean, the vast majority of Americans would just see japanese letters, or. Kanji is the correct term, right? [00:53:43] Speaker A: Mm hmm. Oh, it depends. [00:53:46] Speaker B: Yeah. But, I mean, only a very small percentage of english speaking children would know what the kanji meant. You included in that? Small percentage. But, yeah. So he's wearing a hat with a name on it. [00:54:02] Speaker A: This is lovely. [00:54:05] Speaker B: You know. You know what it made me think of? You ever seen Adventureland? The movie Adventureland? [00:54:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:54:14] Speaker B: The one. The one kid, he's a. He's kind of a friend. He's a side character. His name is Frigo, and he has. He's wearing a t shirt that says, I'm Frigo. Capiche? That's what. That's what it made me think of, wearing a hat with your name on it. [00:54:35] Speaker A: I mean, you know, sometimes you just got. [00:54:39] Speaker B: Yeah, so he's kind of relight. He's kind of reluctant, and sailor Moon is being pretty insistent that he brings. He brings that sculpture to her, and he brings that sculpture to Mika. [00:54:52] Speaker A: Yeah. She's like, um. Mika needs to see this. You did a great job. Come over here. What the fuck? [00:54:57] Speaker B: And then Usagi, for some reason, they felt it was important to cut to just a quick cut of Rey noticing Usagi. Rey is like, oh, Usagi, like, so Ray was. Ray was just there to see the dolls. She wasn't there because Luna had instructed her to be there. She just happens to be there on her date with mamaroom. [00:55:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:55:17] Speaker B: I think that's the purpose of that. Of that little cut was to establish. [00:55:22] Speaker A: That all three girls are there, and they're all aware that they're all there except for Usagi. She knows that Ami is there. [00:55:35] Speaker B: Oh. [00:55:36] Speaker A: So, yeah, they talked about it. [00:55:38] Speaker B: Yep, that's right. So, yeah, and so Mika finishes the last doll at Shingo, and Usagi enter, and at that moment, nephrite summons the Yoma. Yep. [00:55:51] Speaker A: Damn it. Nephrite. [00:55:53] Speaker B: And. And how would you say that the yoma's name. Jumau. Jumo. [00:56:00] Speaker A: Jumo. [00:56:01] Speaker B: Jumo. Which, again, means not permanent, which I still can't. I don't understand how that's. How that makes any sense, but whatever. And let's talk about real quick about what. What jumo looks like. Jumo doesn't look like a doll. Jumo looks like a figurine that animators use to pose to get human poses. [00:56:24] Speaker A: It's got. It's a ball joint doll. [00:56:27] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. That's what it's. Yeah, it's a ball joint doll. It's. It's, um. Which is not. Which is different than the kind of dolls that Mika makes. Yes. And she's got kind of a short, short, short hairdo, and. And she basically sad. [00:56:48] Speaker A: Weird, because in my memory. In my memory, she's got very long hair, so it was weird to see the short hair because I was like, her hair's longer in my head. [00:56:59] Speaker B: It's pretty short. You know who else has short hair? Is, uh, is Mika's mom has pretty short hair. [00:57:05] Speaker A: True. [00:57:06] Speaker B: Um, so jumo zaps micah with kind of a red. A red zap. And at that point, it's assumed that she's taking Micah's energy. Micah has reached peak energy, and now Jumo is taking the. Taking the energy. And once again, Luna has to remind sailor moon to transform. I love that. Yes. It should become pretty second nature. When the yoma appears. Go ahead and transform without Luna. [00:57:38] Speaker A: But not only that. Right before Luna says transform, shingo, uh, dives for micah after her energy is taken. And he's like, mika, no. And then Jumo pushes him over and kind of knocks him out and then steps on his motherfucking sculpture. [00:57:58] Speaker B: Yep, that was a heartbreaker. Which. Which, by that point, looked a little bit more like sailor moon. Then it looked colors and. Yeah, exactly. It didn't look quite as much like a pig. Yeah. And so we get moon prison power makeup, and we get the standard transformation. And so I was going to ask you about this. So she. She introduces herself. I am the pretty guardian who fights for love and for justice. I am Sailor Moon. But she doesn't say, in the name of the moon, I'll punish you in this one. So she doesn't always say that. She doesn't always add that. [00:58:37] Speaker A: No, no. [00:58:40] Speaker B: I hope it's not gone forever, because I like it. In the name of the moon, I'll punish you. [00:58:44] Speaker A: It's 1000% not gone forever, so. [00:58:48] Speaker B: Okay. And then she says her thing about. About, how dare you. How dare you destroy the doll that Shingo made for Mika? Which is. Which is. She's kind of tipping her hat because how does she have that inside information? How does Sailor Moon know that. That chico made the doll for Mika? You know what I mean? Usagi knows that. [00:59:14] Speaker A: Sailor Moon knows everything. [00:59:15] Speaker B: Okay, fair enough. And we'll get to this. We'll get to this thing about. About. So because they're aware that Sailor Moon showed up. They know that, but we'll get to that at the. At the end. And so Sailor moon, you know, kind of, you know, is indignant about the yoma having smashed. Having smashed the doll, and then a possessed doll with fangs. Now the doll has fangs. As if the dolls weren't creepy enough to begin with, which. Those kind of dolls are just creepy to me. [00:59:56] Speaker A: Truth. Truth. [00:59:58] Speaker B: Porcelain dolls. And I had no. I had no trouble believing that this thing was possessed and evil. And it comes flying through the air and attacks Sailor Moon, and they crash through a window of the museum, and they end up outside. [01:00:12] Speaker A: Yep. [01:00:13] Speaker B: And Sailor Mercury has already transformed, and she's right there to cast bubble spray. [01:00:20] Speaker A: Yes. [01:00:21] Speaker B: And I love. [01:00:22] Speaker A: I. My. I. My notes for the fight are. I note that both sailor Mars and Sailor mercury are already transformed. I surmised it was probably due to raise psychic abilities. [01:00:36] Speaker B: Right. [01:00:37] Speaker A: And then I just have bullet points for each action in the fight. [01:00:42] Speaker B: Okay, so I noticed that sailor. Then sailor Mars approaches, and I wasn't. I wasn't quite clear on this. Why she says, I guess we're too soon. So maybe there was something in the animation that they had to cut for the sake of time or something, because we never seen them transform. We, you know, we don't know how they knew to transform because it's all happened pretty suddenly. Nevertheless, they have transformed. I guess. I guess we're here too soon. And then more possessed dolls with fangs and come flying at them. And Mars uses her little. She starts encanting her spells, and they actually show her saying the words, and then what do you call those little. They're like tickets. They're like. They're spell written out in. [01:01:33] Speaker A: It's like a. Oh, gosh. I had this pulled up at one point. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Give me a second. I need both hands. I have to set down the microphone. [01:01:42] Speaker B: Okay, fair enough. So what. What Maddie is looking up right now, or having the intern look up, is, um, when. When sailor Mars, not only does she verbally, uh, cast these spells by. With an incantation, she also produces little cards. They're probably, um, probably the size of a recipe card, I would say. And, um. And she. She places one on each one of the dolls, um, to cast the evil spirits out of the dolls. And specifically, she says that. That, you know, to. That she's casting the evil spirits out. That's what the spell is for. She's she's cast spells in the past for other things, but in this case, yeah, it's to, um. It's to cast evil spirits out of the dolls. What did you, what do you have? What did you find out? [01:02:31] Speaker A: The intern says the following. Um, the pieces of paper are talismans in the shinto. In Shinto and Buddhism in Japan. And Ofuda, which is the name, is a talisman. Talisman made out of various materials such as paper, wood, cloth, or metal. And they are commonly found in Boshinto shrines and buddhist temples and are considered to be imbued. I lost my sins are considered to be imbued with the power of the deities or buddhist figures revered therein. And as we know, Rei is a Shinto priestess. And if you're curious in knowing what the actual words that she says are, she says rin gyo to sha gai jin retsu zai zen. And then she says akrio tai son, which is just like the casting of the spell. I'm not sure exactly what that part means. [01:03:37] Speaker B: Right. So then. So then the dolls have been. They've had the evil spirits taken out of them. And we cut to sailor Moon getting choked by the yoma. The yoma's choking her. And Mars casts fire soul and shoots it at. Shoots little fireballs at the yoma, which causes the yoma to let go of Sailor moon. It's sailor moon. Just like hot, hot, hot, hot. [01:04:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, it causes the yoma to kinda let go of Sailor Moon because we noticed that the yoma's hands are still there holding on to Sailor Moon. [01:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah, the hands have come off. They've come off of her, right? Yeah, the hands are still choking Sailor moon, but they've come off of her body. And the yoma then takes her and takes and starts shooting her forearms at sailor Mars and Mars. [01:04:39] Speaker A: And they're super sharp. [01:04:40] Speaker B: Those things are sharp as knives, which I don't know if they added that later because it's like, well, this is like kind of a blunt attack with just forearms coming at you. That doesn't look that dangerous. [01:04:53] Speaker A: When they hit her hair, because they show her hair being trimmed by them, it's like, it looks like they're. They're hollow. Like it's like a cylinder. Like hollow in the middle. [01:05:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:05:05] Speaker A: So maybe it's like the edge of them is super sharp. That could be, but like a cookie cutter maybe. I don't know. [01:05:14] Speaker B: I think it's dialogue they added later to make it seem like the attacks were more threatening. But who knows? They could never like that. So then Ami uses her cool cyber girl visor, which is probably a remnant from when. When she was going to be a cyborg. [01:05:36] Speaker A: Oh, heck, yeah. [01:05:37] Speaker B: And she notices that she's getting. She's getting an energy reading on the right leg, and she's very clearly the. [01:05:45] Speaker A: Right foot, like she says, right leg. But then it zooms in on the ankle. [01:05:49] Speaker B: Yeah. And she tells Sailor Moon to aim for the right foot or the right leg. And. But Sailor Moon can't manage to cast munchera action because she's still getting choked by the yoma's hand. [01:06:06] Speaker A: But don't worry, don't worry, don't worry, don't worry. [01:06:09] Speaker B: Why is that? [01:06:10] Speaker A: Bae's here. [01:06:11] Speaker B: Bae is here because somebody shows up. All of a sudden, a rose flies roses, roses, roses flies through the screen and pierces the ground. And. And who? Thanks, tuxedo mask. Someone says, thanks, tuxedo mask. Is that ami or that sailor Moon? [01:06:32] Speaker A: I believe it's sailor Moon. [01:06:33] Speaker B: Okay. And she's like. And then tuxedo mask just says, finish her. [01:06:41] Speaker A: And so like the announcer in a mortal kombat game. Exactly. [01:06:50] Speaker B: So what the rose has done, in this case, the rose shows up and caused the yoma to lose concentration and therefore loosens her grip around Sailor Moon's neck. And Sailor Moon is now able to cast Moon Tiara action. And we're back to the old. The old school, where she spins around a couple of times and then stops. And then the old wobbly girl throws the tierra, which, of course, it topples, because, yeah, it's an. She needs to work on this attack. That's all there is to it. [01:07:25] Speaker A: Otherwise, she's got to watch the sports thing that's going on now. [01:07:33] Speaker B: But she has good aim in this case, because it actually shows the tiara hitting the right foot of the Yoma, and then the Yoma turns into black dust and disappears. [01:07:46] Speaker A: As you do when you're hit by an MGA. [01:07:50] Speaker B: And then Mika comes to and asks and exclaims to what happened as. As they all do after they've been possessed, you know, after they've had to deal with these enchanted items. And. And Sailor Moon appears in the window in silhouette, and they're. They're all so exciting, you know, they're excited. [01:08:10] Speaker A: Wow. [01:08:11] Speaker B: Sailor Moon actually came. Says something to that effect. And. And so Sailor Moon says, I took care of the monster. Now it's your turn to make up and be good friends again. And then. [01:08:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:24] Speaker B: And then she takes off. So. [01:08:26] Speaker A: Yeah. And then Shingo laments his broken gift and then apologizes for his actions. [01:08:36] Speaker B: And Mika says it's all right. Plus, he did come to save her, so. [01:08:41] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:08:42] Speaker B: So they, they. He is now forgiveness. And then it's a. It's a quick cut. It's obviously, like the next day or a couple days later, and she's made him a little sailor moon figurine, and he's like, oh, wow, it's so cool. And then Mika's. Mika's like, oh, you like Sailor moon more than me? Typical. [01:09:04] Speaker A: Yeah. She gets offended by his fanboying. [01:09:06] Speaker B: Yeah, typical girl response. I love that. [01:09:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:10] Speaker B: And she goes like, oh, come on, Mika. It's not like that. And then he. And then he turns to the camera and says, what can I say? Women love me. So, yeah, the episode ends with that. It ends quickly. [01:09:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:24] Speaker B: With, what can I say? Women love me, so I. [01:09:27] Speaker A: You gotta love Shingo. [01:09:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I like, I like that he hasn't, you know, he's. He. I like that this episode featured him prominently because he hasn't. Yeah, we haven't seen a whole lot of him, so. [01:09:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:40] Speaker B: And Bay was backd barrel was bad. [01:09:44] Speaker A: It was like all the things that we've been missing came back this episode, and they were just like, hey, we know. We know you've been one barrel. We know you've been one bay. We know you've been wanting Juice and or toast. All three. [01:09:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Basically, the only thing. The only things we were deprived of were we didn't get to see sailor Mars or sailor Mercury transformed and we didn't get in the name of the moon. I'll punish you. We do get that. In the beginning of the episode, when she says, I'm. When she introduces herself and she says that she's actually a superhero, we do get in the name of the moon, I'll punish you at that time. [01:10:23] Speaker A: Sure. [01:10:24] Speaker B: But we didn't get it. We didn't get it when she transformed in the middle of the fight. So I'll take it where I can get it. And then if you. If you. If you stick through and you're still watching after the credits have rolled, we find out that episode 19 is Usagi's joy. A Love letter from Tuxedo mask. And in the teaser, she gets a love letter from Tuxedo mask. But we hear that Mars and Mercury also got them. I guess we'll just have to see what this is all about. [01:11:03] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:11:04] Speaker B: Usagi from Tuxedo mask. This was a pretty good episode. I enjoyed this episode. I liked it. [01:11:11] Speaker A: Me too. Me too. I love the episodes where we get to. We get to see a little more of Usagi's family and a different side of her that we don't usually get to see. [01:11:20] Speaker B: Right. Also, she's, you know, to see how she cares about her little brother, even though they're siblings. [01:11:25] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:11:26] Speaker B: And they. And they definitely have that sibling. That sibling rivalry going on where they tease each other and they're, you know, and they're. They make fun of each other. But, you know, Usagi is such a good person, you know? [01:11:39] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [01:11:40] Speaker B: She brings her little brother a cool beverage when he's. When he's depressed, you know, I mean, and that's. That says a lot about the person that she is. [01:11:50] Speaker A: Truth. [01:11:51] Speaker B: And that's. [01:11:52] Speaker A: Let me tell you. [01:11:53] Speaker B: You want to talk about social media? [01:11:55] Speaker A: Hell, yeah, I do. So, as per usual, you can always find us anywhere. Unicast. That's m o o n I e. Cast.
